The 29ish point spread seemed like easy money

I thought Kent State played very well. Shumate was a focal point for ND but that didn’t stop her from posting a nice game. I believe she got a double double. Lots of players seemed to step up and keep the Flashes in the game. As frustrated as Dunn must have been with her shot, she really hustled and played well on the boards. The girl off the bench, Tyler, was ver impressive. She is a freshman? Didn’t seem it today.

Well, as I said before, I regret not following this squad all season. I hope the non seniors all return for 24-25. I plan to be there to cheer them on a few times.

Go Flashes!

Yes Tyler is a freshman. She had no problem scoring against Notre Dame. Dunn has had problems with her shot most of the year. Her technique is a bit strange and when she loses it it’s not easy to get it back. Getting 10 rebounds is expected though and she usually does. At 6’3” she needs to do that. Problem is replacing half of Shumate will not be easy.

I wasn't able to watch the game but tried to listen to it. I made it partly through the second quarter before I had to turn it off. 99% of the commentary was spent glorifying ND. It sounded like a ND scrimmage with how little Kent was mentioned.

Outside of that extremely proud of the team for not giving up. Great to get back into the tournament and hopefully Starkey can build off this experience.

The commentary was terrible. ESPN wasn’t ready for 32 women’s games in 2 days. That plus they promote the women’s game like the NBA.. it’s all about the players and the teams are just there because they have to be.

Agree. I hate that. Being old enough to have watched televised college games almost from the beginning of televised games I've seen all the changes. Of course, there weren't that many games on TV until the 1980s. The focus on certain players as if the rest of the team are just "Hollywood extras" is sickening. Games are even promoted that way - "Stay tuned for Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes......".

Really. According to ESPN women’s basketball is so much better because they stay at a school longer. Is there anybody who has more BS than ESPN. We have lost one decent player every year. Dingle, Blackman and Santoro come to mind. Only Dingle did anything after she left. Blackman went to the Big East and got to play on an 0-20 Xavier team. Santoro made the starting line up on a good Florida Gulf Coast team but then missed most of the season with a severe knee injury.

The ESPN comment did not refer to the transfer portal. It referred to the fact that the WNBA will not accept players who are not at least four years out of high school, so players are not leaving early to go pro. Men's college basketball does not get the best players available because they go to the G League or abroad, or they go to the NBA after one year of college.

I don't think that's still true, prep players might have gone that route until NIL advanced to the point they can make far more than the G-League or elsewhere.

I agree somewhat but hasn’t that been the case forever. ESPN is saying it because they want a 50/50 split and need to do something to pump up their ratings on the women’s side.

We'll see what the future holds, but generally the first half of the first round of the NBA draft is full of kids who have played zero years or one year of college basketball.
