JMU85

Thanks that is it, a classic. The blond at bottom center at the 21 second mark is my older daughter so that is why I love this so much. Plus it is great and was a great game!!

Thanks again.

The MRDs need to do this on Saturday

Allow for extra time to travel this week. VT, UVA, And of course JMU games are very close in playing time and of course game day in the morning.

The 4-2-5 is the base, but after losing 2 DE’s for the year they just aren’t as good up front and don’t have any depth. Ironmen D-linemen get gassed no matter how good their fitness is.

If I were game planning against JMU’s defense, I would run no huddle, fast tempo and limited substitutions too take advantage of that thin front. JMU is a well coached team and I am a Cignetti fan. It will take a clean game for sure on App’s part.

That's the opposite of what you want to do. If JMU doesn't have any subs, then the starters are going to be in there the whole time. By not substituting your guys, you're forcing your starters to stay in the game, in exchange for forcing JMU's starters to stay in. But in this case, JMU doesn't have much depth, so you've just traded away your advantage.

If you're confident that App's subs are better than JMU's subs, THEN you run up-tempo with a lot of substitutions so both sides' starters get tired and you can feast on JMU's lack of depth.

Also, by limiting substitutions, you force yourself into the same personnel groupings -- do you have TEs and slot guys who can double as RBs and know enough of the playbook to beat the zones and/or run zone blocks? Essentially, you'll be running a third-and-long playbook on every play, or you'll eventually stuck with a first-and-ten personnel grouping on third-and-long, which really limits your options.

Fair points. I look at in not so much to go up tempo for the full game, but more so to expedite how fast your front 7 gets tired. The best way to take advantage of the depth is to get into that depth sooner than later. The other reason is to simply slow up that pass rush by getting hands on hips. Joey is very good at avoiding sacks but JMU is a different animal, even minus Green. The size isn’t a factor as much as the speed.
Not a lack of depth in the front 7, only the front 4. Plenty of LB/rover depth in JMU’s 4/2/5.

Hopefully our crowd is well ahead of their traffic... need to be on the road at 5 or 6 am this week to make gameday start! Need the largest gameday crowd ever when the camera's green light at 9 am!!

RE: JMU vs AppSt @2pm ESPN+
App State fans with very amusing takes.
They think College Gameday is going to be way too much of a distraction. Especially calling out JMU fans that are just talking about it. Ya know, because we're obviously all going to be on the field on Saturday.

-Cignetti is a master when it comes to minimizing distractions. These players probably know all about the Richmond game. Houston did not do a good job of minimizing the distractions. If College Gameday wasn't enough proof of that, go take a look at his very last game (doesn't need any more mentioning).
-This team has been absolutely bombarded by distractions all season long.
Here's a bunch:
-How could this team possibly top last year's 8-3 season?
-No CFP chances
-No Bowl
-No Sun Belt Championship
-Hardest schedule in JMU history
-QB battle in off season
-QB replacement in week 1
-3 away games in a row - no other team in the country had to do it
-UVA's first home game since the tragedy
-Buzz about beating UVA
-Media attention building week by week
-Rank JMU!
-JMU gets ranked!
-Media week after week backing up JMU telling the NCAA to "Let us bowl!"
-JMU AD Jeff Bourne retiring
-Virginia AG threatening legal action
-Virginia Senator backing up AG
-NCAA denying waiver
-JMU letter number 2
Shall I go on???
Yet through all of that and so, so, so much more this team has come out week after week after week and won.
I suppose we should take it as a compliment. They think JMU being distracted is their only chance of beating us.

Withers was still coach for the Richmond GameDay in 2015.

We have also gone through coaching changes after each CGD. Something to keep an eye on.

My mistake.
That was also the first game where Withers introduced the "M" helmet.
I remember the price of tickets to the game was really high. This game is making that game look like a bargain.

Technically yes. Withers left after that season, Houston stuck around for another.

I do predict though that Cignetti will leave some time after this CGD. Maybe it’s next month, maybe it’s 5 years. The only thing I know is that it takes more than 3 licks to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop.

I think we all try to block out that 2018 season lol. Houston lost more games that year (albeit 8-4) than Cignetti has in FBS (18-3).

Heck, Cig had the least amount of BFS losses by any coach that year. I still feel pain when I see someone walk around with the gray jerseys.

Remember the feeling when we lost Houston? I certainly do.
I really liked the guy leading up to that last week.
It was a pretty bad feeling at the time and a lot of uncertainty. Little did we know that the Cignetti era would be this epic.
There were people that wanted Cignetti gone because he "couldn't win the big game".

Yeah, Houston went from hero to goat for me in about as much time as it took for him to remember to say "go Dukes" to that interviewer between flights to Greenville.

NGL, it sure has been satisfying to watch him age like Lincoln since moving to ECU. Every time I see Cig answer media questions, I think "now this is how it's done."

I still liked him, but I and a few others definitely pointed out how the trend of our football team was not great from a recruiting standpoint(had some hits, but also fair share of misses, and most of the high stars transferred before seeing the field) and our offense was just not good.

Was still sad, but once I heard Cignetti was coming, felt we upgraded. Glad he proved me right.

Totally agree.
His heart was never at JMU, no matter how many times he said he was happy and that JMU was a special place. He wanted to be a P5 coach badly. When UNC didn't even consider him for an interview, he knew he would have to go elsewhere. ECU was his stepping stone to get to P5.
And now, years later, JMU is FBS and ranked. ECU is amongst the worst in FBS and Houston is on the verge of getting fired. He'll be lucky to get a top FCS job after this.
The grass isn't always greener.

Not if his goal was P5 or soon to be a steady job.
If he gets fired from ECU, he's probably going to have to take a significant pay cut to coach again.
The only legacy he is going to have in ECU is not making it happen at the FBS level. But hey, he got paid a lot and I'm sure he likes the money.
