Track removal
Not sure if it has been discussed on here already, but in the Eagles podcast, CC confirmed the track is being removed after spring ball being replaced with green turf. New grey turf is being installed on the playing surface - he referred to it as "Parking Lot Grey" with silver sprinkled in.

That'll be a much nicer look. Better broadcast image for EMU and the MAC. Upward and onward!04-cheers

It would be nice if they shifted the entire field closer to the main (west) stands.

Agree 100% - it sits weird currently.

I'll chime in.

Those who have been on this forum for years know I have always thinking of what we could with the playing surface.

When I am in Ypsi I ask those who would know. People who would have to cough up the green.

Bottom line: I have consistently favored green turf where the track is. Basically a no brainer. I know of no other color which would work,

As far as moving the football field. I asked. Too expensive.

RE: Track removal
BTW, if I had my choice, I'd move the playing field say 15 yards toward the SOUTH endzone.

One northern most section of seats, both sides, wouldn't be used.

The seating in the curved part of the stadium would become more intimate, if you will.

Can't they just construct rows of seating where the track is? Just build and connect to the current stands on both sides. Problem solved...somewhat.

Yes. I believe a number of NFL stadiums have done that. MIAMI'S stadium and I belive the Commanders' stadium.

I'll try to find a NFL photo.

In the section on criticism, there is reference to 3 rows of "dream seats" that were built appending to the first row of sideline seating.

That would "eat up" say 10+ feet of unused sideline space.

EMU could do likewise, if desired.

I think that would be an ideal option.

I'd guess players' families, recruits, etc. might like that close to the field seating.

I DID find an example in a photo I took at FedEx when the Lions played an exhibition game against the 'Skins in 2015.

Great news! the track was visually bad and I think removing it is a WAY better look to recruits and fans. Definitely wish the field was closer but eliminating it and getting a newer field will be awesome.

Well done EMU and Maxx in helping out financially.

Agree 100%.

Does anyone else cringe when they see the long jump pits on TV?

If one looks at this drawing one can see where field level sears were added.

Making it even more difficult for the handicapped seating watchers! We are already behind the back of the end zone! We might as well rename the stadium Glass Bowl II! The best handicapped seating is on the east side!
The only seating they sell to the handicapped is the ones they can't sell to anyone else!07-coffee3

Don't understand this comment.

The stadium is symmetrical. The playing field was placed vis-a-vis the track. I don't see other options.

https://emueagles.com/facilities/rynearson-stadium/2

I suggest the AD look next summer how the stadium looks w/out the track and with green turf other than the playing area.

Think it will look 100% better. As suggested need to visually fill the area where the track is now so the field doesn't look so distant.

Without the track, they will have no other option BUT to build stands to fill the void. With nothing where the track once was, it will look really odd with the current stands so far away from the field. At least now, it makes sense why the grandstands are so far away from the field.

Dear Friends,
No one has suggested what these added seats will cost, and does Eastern have the resources? Also, not that is an impossible engineering feat, but the entrances to the visiting team have to be considered.

Yes, adding seats here would impact the visiting team and their locker room. I would love for the visiting locker room to not be on our sideline. As we saw with the WMU game, it is not a good look when the visiting team is gloating their win in front of recruits on a visit to EMU. If you haven't seen the video that Vanzee posted after that game check it out.

RE: Track removal
Good points.

I think re-painting the walls on both sides GREEN may visually make the walls blend into the sideline turf.

Gray walls stand out in contrast to green turf. An artistic person may have an opinion.

BTW, the current color scheme, red, green, gray turf, etc. Is almost an eye sore.

Green and gray will be much easier on the eyes. Will kind of look like carpet.
