We're gonna add two teams , which boost income by X amount but it's gonna cost everyone Xx2 in added travel costs is stupid. Sure Delaware is a good addition so is NDSU SDSU. UMass sucks at football but would be a good basketball addition, but does half the conference want to go broke adding them?

Any additions has to balanced with costs.
If we add to schools in the far east we have to balance that with cost saving measures and not expect every other school to suck it up and pay for the additions

No school seems willing to advocate for a new school within their footprint, so any expansion probably needs to expand the footprint.

Travel cost is always exaggerated on message boards. Sending a football team to MA or DE every four years is not a big deal. Travel will be worse for the hypothetical new schools than the existing membership.

As somebody else pointed out, UMass convincingly beat NMSU. I’m pretty sure they would be competitive in football.

If UMass is football only then it a big fat NO THANKS. If it's all sports and divisional then that effects all sports and especially an eastern team who gets saddled with a western division. Travel costs would be through the roof.

I would say all-sports, for sure. And no, CUSA and UMass don’t have a ton of sports in common (as Steve illustrated) to make anything “through the roof”.

* divisions are a thing of the past.

Here is the Steve quote:

We already have 21 sports. We'll be able to keep half of our other sports in their current conferences.

Thought it was next year, but maybe I’m wrong. I suppose UDel isn’t hurting for cash.

Besides, more teams means fewer opportunities to play the teams we have now! How could that be good?

And what sour grapes could I have towards Delaware or EKU or Missouri State. I have no interest in those schools. That's the problem.

(Also, we played the ULX twins a ton over the last 20 years in every sport but football, and we had more than one series with ULL for football).

Do you not understand or are you ignoring the fact CUSA will be picking from FCS next time the Sun Belt or AAC comes calling? There will be a huge increase in cost to make the transition in the future. This is why right NOW makes sense.

Be the same set of schools. This way they have time to raise the money until/unless we need them. And until then, we do not have to split the money farther or travel to them. Plus we will have more information about what we are adding to in that case. If FIU leaves you might invite a different replacement than if WKU leaves (or maybe not). Let's get some more data. Give it some time, we have literally never played a whole season with our new teams.

Plus, you know UMass might still be there if they do not join the MAC (which they should try to do if they want to and the MAC wants them).

Let's not rush things.

Fair point regarding UMass. I think Delaware is a no-brainer though. They will be competitive in football Day 1.
