Game Week Bye
We are sorta on a bye week until our game with Toledo. The one we thought before the season began would be for the MAC championship. Watching this team is a bit like watching a heavyweight fight where both fighters struggle round after round on stay on their feet. Until yesterday when our team got knocked on the mat. The 10 count for this season is now on. Are we going to get up off the mat and get in the fight or remain on the mat? Toledo is smelling blood in the water as our Buffalo and Akron. Honestly I have not seen CC has shook up as yesterday post game remarks. Hopefully some of our injuries heal. How this season will impact verbal commits coaching staff and the portal remains to be seen.

Our losses on offense were to hard to make up, e.g. LT, LG, C, QB , WR,, TE, etc.
EMU isn't a "next man up" program with multiple QBs who can start and play well in the MAC.

One thing I Iike about CC is he doesn't throw his players under the bus.
Ron English not only threw his players under the bus but kept running them over.

good points 79. If anyone hasn't watched the post-game presser, they should. CC admits his anger and I've never heard him like this. Usually he points to some weird positive and he absolutely did not. I have a feeling there's something not right in the locker room this yr.

Which follows his frustration post game presser about the loss at NIU. Hence my comments about hm coaching changes, player changes. Perhaps the recent rush to offer JUCOS is not a fill in the gaps move but a recruiting overhaul or recruit over existing players? CC has some decent recruiting years so yes there should be a next man up talent on paper. Smith and McCoy have several years to learn the system at QB. And while its not an excuse we tend to overlook the constant in and out of injuries this year. Add to that some of our portal transfers have been disappointing.
This season will test CC character and the teams character. How they react to yesterday's dumpster fire game will be interesting to watch.

I hate that this week is going to feel like a wake for the season's expectations.

You mean EMU doesn't simply reload?

I can't speak for Steve but in two areas the OL and WR what we added in the portal did not make for the talent we lost lost at those two positions and the graduation losses in my opinion. Without Ramirez we still lack a consistent pass rusher game in and game out. We brought in a JUCO QB. And some JUCO help at TE. Do we even use a TE anymore on offense? Haney has been out where is Miles on the DL? We lost two DBs Peavy and Scott. Haven't had a chance to look at the rotation on the OL.

I agree with you.
The "problem" with reloading is that isn't a sure thing. Do we think there is another Samson Evans or Jaylon Jackson in the portal???? Probably not!!!
As '79 indicated sometimes the portal turns out barren and the talent isn't what we thought.
Haven't our best OL been home grown? Sow, Johnson, Howie, Dooley, etc. Lot of portal OL haven't been impact players for us.
