Wild[ly frustrating] seasons
Has anyone ever had their team lose, or even win, a whole bunch of crazy close games in one season? I’m just trying to relate to other fans who have experienced anything like App State’s season.
App has played seven games. Two games were won by more than one score: Gardner Webb and ECU.
Otherwise, this is how the season has gone:
1) Double OT loss to UNC. Many here know about that game.
2) A three point loss to Wyoming in which App State absolutely dominated in every category, except for getting touchdowns in the red zone instead of field goals. The difference was Wyoming’s first ever field goal they blocked and returned for a touchdown.
3) A three point loss to Coastal Carolina in which CCU kicked a walk-off FG, and, in the game’s only turnover, an App WR fumbled the ball running down the sidelines. A CCU player recovered the ball, and let’s just say it was controversial whether the recovery was in or out of bounds. Ruling on the field stands, not confirmed, kind of situation.
4) A 7 point loss to ODU in a very tight, turnover free game in which App dropped a pass in the end zone as time expired.
5) A one point win over ULM with a walk-off, 54ish yard FG (can’t remember the exact length, but it was the longest made FG for App State since 2000).
This is all in seven games, not 12! Anyone ever seen their team have a season like this, especially when most of the nailbiting games were losses? Im curious about fans’ experiences like this, from Alabama to D3.

I feel you. We've blown three games already this year.

We had a series of those. In 2016 Texas had 8 one score games, including 2 OT and lost 5 of 8. Usually the deciding score was late. 2017 only had 5 1 score games, but 3 were OT and we lost 4 of 5. In 2018, Sam Ellinger carried us and we had 10 one score games but won 7 of 10. We didn't have to do any OTs that year. Sam usually got us the last minute TD or FG to win.

All of ODU's games with the exception of the first against VT have been one score games. Call me when you beat Texas A&M Commerce by a score of 10-9 the week after you fall to Wake Forrest by a field goal.
Glad to have the win though.

RE: Wild[ly frustrating] seasons
Georgia Tech this season is alternating wins and losses in inexplicable ways.
L - Close Loss to Louisville
W - Blowout FCS team
L - Keep it close with Ole Miss through 4 Qtr
W -Beat Wake on the Road
L - get blown out by Bowling Green
W - Win miraculously against Miami
L- Choke away a 6 pt lead in the 4th Qtr against BC
If you can bet on your State I would put a sizable amount on the Georgia Tech Moneyline against UNC.

UMass in 2014 and 2015, back to back seasons.
Both were 3-9 years.
2014 included losses of:
38-41 (Colorado) (Back and forth all game, but UMass up at the half)
31-34 (Vanderbilt) (UMass was up by 11 to start the 4th quarter, I think we also missed a ~25 yard field goal that would have tied it as time expired)
42-47 (Bowling Green) (UMass was up to start the 4th quarter)
41-42 (Miami OH) (UMass was up 41-21 at the half)
35-42 (Toledo) (UMass up at the half)
Could have legitimately been an 8-4 season
2015:
23-25 (Temple) (UMass had an extra point blocked and run back for 2 by Temple at the end of the game - instead of being up 24-23 with time nearing an end, we were down 2...this was the worst one)
10-15 (Kent State)
35-51 (Toledo) (including this one because we were up 28-10 at the half)
13-17 (Akron) (Up 13-7 at the half)
13-20 (Miami OH) (up 13-10 to start the 4th)
Not as clear cut as the previous year, but could have been back to back winning seasons. We were making progress in the MAC, and then the next year we were out.

RE: Wild[ly frustrating] seasons
East Carolina currently has the #31 ranked Total Defense, the #36 Rushing Defense and the #47 Ranked Passing Defense in the nation.
We also have the #127 ranked Total Offense. Hence, we can't score and win games.
With even a decent offense we would likely be 5-2 or 6-1 this season. At worst we would be 4-3. Instead, we are 1-6.
I don't want to hear a darn thing about being frustrated from anyone who has a .400 or better record at this time.

RE: Wild[ly frustrating] seasons
App might be having a frustrating season, but I don't think I've ever seen a season so painfully heartbreaking than what Sam Houston is going through this year.
@ BYU 0-14: First game as an FBS team at a now P5 team and you hold them to 14. As good as you can expect a transition team imo.
vs Air Force 3-13: Seeing how well Air Force has done this year holding potentially the best G5 team to just 13 could be even more impressive than the last game. But an L is still an L
@ Houston 7-38: Blowout game, nothing else much to say other than the novelty of it being Sam Houston at Houston
vs Jacksonville State 35-28 OT: First game at their actual home stadium in Huntsville, they score a touchdown with 1:11 remaining in the 4th and have an 8 point lead against Jax. They then allow the gamecocks to drive down the entire field (75 yards) to score a touchdown+2pt conversion and then Jax St takes the game in overtime
@ Liberty 21-16: Sam Houston has the final drive of the game, they drive the length of the field and find themselves with a first down at the LIB 3. They then proceed to miss 4 passes in a row to end the game on downs breathing down the Liberty goal line.
@NM State 27-13: Had a good showing the first few drives before being overwhelmed by NM State
vs FIU 33-27 2OT: With 1:24 Sam Houston scores a field goal to take a 3pt lead. FIU drives but finds themselves with a 4th and 18 waaay outside of field goal range. They the proceed to gain 20 yards with a QB scramble to get them in FG range which FIU nails. After a back and forth 1OT FIU takes it in the second Overtime.
God loves everyone, except Sam Houston fans

Bad news for the Hoos there is another stronger curse.
Underdogs on the CW are 7-1 ATS and 5 of 8 on the Moneyline, they were 1pt away from being perfect ATS.
UVA opened as a favorite...
