Virginia's BBQ is too good to share and market to other states. Keep out!!!

WV should have stayed with us.... Together, we could be doing great things now...

First of all, depending on where you live in NC, you’re the one eating barbecue the wrong way.

And SC mustard style is pretty damn good.

Also, Texas says you don’t know jack about barbecue.

Yeah, you have lost all credibility with this statement. Virginia should just stay out of the BBQ conversations. Tell us more about your famous peanuts and ham.

You need to get out of the trailer more, Cletus.

Barbecue Is Different In Virginia, And That’s Okay

A thin vinegary tomato based sauce is what I think of as Virginia BBQ. And there's no better barbecue chicken than you'll find from a church somewhere in the Shenandoah Valley wrapped up in aluminum foil.

Dude, side of the road, church picnic shelter, bunch of old men standing around a dozen grills cooking chicken—that’s good eating no matter where you are!

I love that this has turned into a debate about who has the best BBQ. I currently live overseas so I can only get it when I make a trip to the US, but I’ve always thought it funny how when I’d go to different cities in the US and ask people what local food they recommend, the answer would always be “oh, we have the best barbecue, you should get that!”

That said, the answer is eastern Carolina bbq.

Good BBQ is like beautiful women, we all have preferences but at the end of the day it’s all good

I don’t think I’ve ever denied that eastern NC barbecue is hands down the best. I lived in eastern NC for four years and ate more than my fair share. That said, one can also believe that SC mustard style is good, that Virginia has some damn good barbecue, and that Texas does too.

I mean, you can get good pizza a lot of places. But if you want to be surrounded by good pizza, you gotta go to New Jersey. Same with barbecue. You’ll find your spots here and there, but it’s a way of life in North Carolina.

I’d need some of you to point me to some good East Carolina BBQ. The worst BBQ that I’ve ever had was in Greenville, NC.

I can't tell if we're supposed to hate Ohio or Nebraska with the color coding of that map! If you polled people where I'm at, Jersey and New York are the most hated with their over-taxed immigrants fleeing their falling empire states to find refuge down here. I hate everyone when I'm on the roads, though, and in the MB area we have almost every region of the nation represented for Worst Behind the Wheel. As far as barbecue goes, that's something our more obnoxious brethren to the North throw in our faces but I can promise you it's not even a thing we care about at all in this Carolina as we pride ourselves on having the best seafood along the coast where I grew up...

Cletus? Trailer? You live in Roanoke you hick.

Nobody thinks of Virginia when they think of BBQ. That's not an insult, that's the truth. Sorry that hurts your feelings.

We're 3 hours away Einstein. Do you notice a big culture change when you cross the state line? BBQ where we live is traditionally a lot like in western NC. I've been to Lexington and I've had better in VA. A lot better.

Yes. Big difference. I have family in VA and BBQ culture is not even close.

Look, BBQ is subjective. However, there are a handful of states that are know for BBQ. Virginia is not one of them. I'm not sure why y'all are getting so butt hurt over this.

I will say one thing that I 've had in Virginia that I haven't had any where else is a Cheesy Western at the T Room. For those that don't know, it's a cheeseburger with egg and relish. It really works well together.

Just because VA is not known for BBQ doesn’t mean we don’t know BBQ. SC is known for their BBQ and it’s gross, Alabamans apparently use a mayo based sauce, never had it and don’t want to.

The cheesy western is actually from Roanokes Texas Tavern, the T Room in Lynchburg came after. Originally the same owners but the Lynchburg location was bought out some years later. The T Room uses better ingredients, I don’t necessarily recommend the TT before midnight but it’s a Roanoke landmark and tradition and has saved my life on a number of occasions

I don't think anyone in Alabama has either. I've never seen it offered at any barbecue place. Alabama barbecue sauce seems to be a lot less sweet with a little vinegar base to it.

I don’t hate NOVA. I don’t like driving there. I dislike that Richmond forgets there’s life west of Charlottesville. I get annoyed when people from the north and east parts of the state talk about Roanoke like it’s far SWVA and I’m like, there’s 200 miles between Roanoke and Lee County. Roanoke’s closer to the middle of Virginia than its western edge.

I’m aggravated by folks who think the jobs in Roanoke are Walmart and coal, when the coal is (again) a couple of hours west and our biggest employers are Carilion Clinic, Wells Fargo and the V.A. hospital.

. . .. as well you should be, because they’ve clearly neglected McDonald’s, Burger King, baggin’ groceries at the A&P, and those annoying guys on every corner trying to wash your windshield while you’re at a red light.

I hear ya pal . . . Fully represent or don’t represent at all.
