G5 Conference Strength
As of October 15th, Number of .500 or better programs across the G5:

Sun Belt 12 of 14 (11 eligible)
American 9 of 14
Mountain West 5 of 12
MAC 5 of 12
CUSA 4 of 9 (3 eligible)

Some perspective, if people say your team is the tenth best in the Sun Belt, you're still right in line with a bowl opportunity compared to other conferences, or at least you're playing at a level above your G5 peers.

There is a real chance Georgia State, Georgia southern, Marshall, Appalachian State, Coastal, Troy, Texas State, one of Louisiana or South Bama will reach 6 wins.

We only have 6 bowl contracts. who sits at home?

We're going to end up pulling from other conferences.

I do wonder if we can lure some bowls to abandon CUSA

Curious…why is .500 your benchmark? I’m assuming each of these teams played a FCS cupcake and is actually 2-3 against peer FBS teams.

The bowl pool should help us fill up other slots. CUSA likely will not fill their bowls with the departure of teams and then JSU transitioning and ineligible. ESPN’s FPI says there is over 90% chance we have 8 teams get to 6 wins. Here is what it looks like for each team as of today:
100% - JMU
99.9% - Troy
97.7% - Georgia State
96.1% - Louisiana
94.1% - Texas State
95.9% - Georgia Southern
92.3% - Marshall
91.1% - South Alabama
85.8% - Coastal Carolina
72.2% - App State
19.1% - Arkansas State
14.4% - Old Dominion
1.2% - ULM
0.2% - Southern Miss

TXST would still be 4-2 with that P5 win. I don't care of Baylor sucks this year. A P5 win is a P5 win.

It's a nice and clean halfway point.

One thing GS does not have to worry about we have always traveled well for bowl games.
