RE: GAME THREAD: JMU @ Marshall Thursday 10/19 @ 7pm on ESPN
Marshall has gotten up for the big games and rolled their helmet on the field a few times as well. I think there is talent on the Marshall roster, but Huff has trouble getting consistency from this group.

Have to think Marshall will give a good effort in a game like this at home. JMU played a great game last week and I'm worried a bit about a possible letdown in terms of execution/focus.

Should be a great game on ESPN. Coming from FloSports to the SBC/ESPN has been a dream come true.

RE: GAME THREAD: JMU @ Marshall Thursday 10/19 @ 7pm on ESPN
This was always gonna be a great game, but now there's an even higher level of motivation for both teams. JMU has revenge on their minds and now is also sitting at 26th most votes in both polls. If we win, that actually worries me quite a bit about a let down against ODU next week. This week though, I think that "#26" unranked is bad news for Marshall.

On the other side, Marshall went on the road 4-0 and is coming back home after losing two in a row. They're gonna be fired up to get a shot at the 6-0 "#26" Dukes and avoid dropping three straight. I've thought all along that this matchup has the potential to grow in to one of the Belt's best rivalries, and this should be an intense next chapter.

I love the improvement we've shown throughout the season though and because of that I do think the Dukes are better. I think we come out with our hair on fire and get off to another really strong start, then like the GS game I don't think we take our foot off the pedal this time. I do think Marshall will respond better than GS did, but I don't think it'll be enough.

JMU 34
Marshall 24

Without looking at the lines, I bet it will start out JMU -8.

Come game time, will be JMU -10.

After the Georgia State loss, you're not gonna find many Marshall fans who think we have a shot anymore.

Oh crap this is gonna suck!

I dont know if JMU is always as good as they looked Saturday against GS, or if Marshall is always as bad as they played Saturday against GSU, but if so, JMU wins this one pretty easily.

However, college football is weird. It's a Thursday game and Marshall is at home, so I could see Marshall winning this - they're not a bad team at all and they'll likely be extra focused this week to get back on track.

I'll start by sayin' I love muh boys, but we gotta get better coaching.. the special teams were a disaster, we can't tackle, we let them catch the ball and THEN try to hit them..Yeah, we finally get home-field, but don't forget it's on a short week and we're really banged up..Hoepfully we go "marshall mode" and play to the level of our opponent as we're known to do and give a ND effort instead of a BG effort

We're definitely not. This is the first time we've played four quarters with no glaring, nearly disastrous letdowns.

Marshall can absolutely win this game. And I don't mean "they have a chance." I mean, I'll be moderately surprised if we win. Marshall is very good, they're at home, they have a lot of pride, and they have a lot to play for.

Same. They've dropped 2 in a row. I expect them to being playing with a chip on their shoulders to show everyone they aren't done. Gonna be a tough one for the Dukes.

My guess is we're behind the eightball in less than 5 minutes and too many of those kind of games this season have taken their toll. Not sure they have the strength to try and mount another comeback. They've had to work for it every single game. Nothing has come easy, even in our FCS game. I'm NOT saying they'll give up. These guys have a lot of heart. I just don't know if they have the horses to do again against this caliber of opponent.

Actually, I was alluding to the point spread (last year).

Yeah which didn’t take into account Centeio being ruled out 10 min before kickoff

Didn't you take into account it was Fanchers first gate as a starting QB? We were in the same boat.

What are you arguing here? Because I’m saying that Vegas spread you’re showing was as high as it was because it assumed our star qb was playing

No that was the closing line the line started at 12.5, the kickoff line was 9.5.

Anyhow, I expect this line to be 2.5 - 3 when all is said and done.

This should be a close game.

I wouldn't put to much stock in the GS beat down.

GS's pass intensive offense needs an experienced system grown QB. Or at least more experienced.

Perfect storm to take advantage or our weakness as it is currently.

Sugarwood in Lavalette should be your first choice. Best public course in the area.

Hit ‘em straight.

Postage Stamp greens on Sugarwood. Fun course though. You even get to walk the train tracks!

You can also hit up Creekside Golf Course (formerly twin silos). It's right down the road. You can play a Par 6 hole, play a Par 3 that drops off the side of a mountain, and play the double green on #9/18. Just don't putt from the wrong side. It's a long putt.
https://www.creeksidegolfcourselavalette.com/

Both of the above are all the way out in Lavalette. A bit of drive but not bad.

As far as other Public courses worth a try, you can play Riviera. It's a shorter flat course. Right on the Ohio River. The back 9 butts up against the river so you can blast some shag balls out onto the water and see how far you can get the out there compared to your buddies. It's just north on Rt 2, not far at all from town/stadium.

Marshall defense has been exposed not as strong as 2022. Three of the first for games against struggling offenses, ODU found a weak spot and gashed the defense 3 times for long TDs. I expect a high scoring game.

So you think the decision to not start Centeio had a significant impact on the game line 10 minutes later? A decision that wouldn't be known to the rest of the world until after the game started and JMU took to the field. Really? Think about that for a second.

JMU fans, we won last year. We were the better team that day.

Hell. Doesn't matter who your QB was at the time. You lost. Honestly, the narrative from your fan base needs to stop. We suck but you're not completely unbeatable.

I don't think that is even the argument. If I'm reading all this right, the argument is over year old betting lines. Can we talk about this year instead of when the line moved to what spread 12 months ago?..not directed at you, Riley.

This year, I am equal parts worried about Marshall having a chip on their shoulder because of the losses and glad we did not get ranked because that is some extra fire for us.
