Dear Luckeyone,
Eastern plays a better game then the previous two, and came close to sending it into overtime, and you make the claim that Central deserved to win? I don't know what game you were watching or listening, but it couldn't be the Eastern game.

And I think the blocked PAT was over him. Tough game.

Was the starter hurt??

I think he replaced Conti?

We played a tough game when many thought CMU on the road would be a cakewalk for CMU. Keep improving and keep grinding. Nice to see Austin using his legs.

That still pic doesn't mean sh!t. Definitely not enough to overturn the call on the field.

Really feel for Gomez. None of that is on him. This offense had every opportunity to put the game away earlier in the quarter, but play calling was ultra conservative and we got burned. Defense didn’t do many favors either.

That being said, the final was much closer than any really expected. We had opportunities, but failed to execute. Failing to convert on 4th down in the red zone and the blocked extra point/return turned out to be the difference makers.

I’m not trying to troll but what are you seeing? Ball is in his hands against his chest with a foot down, clear as day. Does he need to have it duct taped to his body? The announcers didn’t see it either and started blabbing about his foot being out of bounds. It was out, but after his other foot already tapped in bounds.

We can talk about many things, but CC became super conservative with his play calls, and it cost us in the end. Our defense played its worse game of the season. I blame this loss on the coaching staff, not the refs!

If not for the poor play of CMU special teams this game would not be close. We have too many injuries, and no deep passing attack to contend for the MAC. However our MAC schedule is weak so perhaps we finish 0.500

This team does have a low ceiling, it almost certainly has zero chance of winning the MAC. This team has little in the way of offensive explosiveness, unlike Creighton's prior teams. We have not been this weak at QB/receiver since Coach's first two years. Had this team spotted San Jose St two scores in the bowl game, I would have turned off the television, because it is game over for sure. I can only assume that Cam'Ron and Ike have been found wanting as we clearly are incapable of throwing the ball vertically to date. Kinda wondering about Swinton and Lockett at receiver as well, did we get a couple of P5 duds?

Nevertheless, I expected worse today. Smith also was our main QB last season in six games and our record was 5-1. We were playing crappy teams for sure, but we came away with the W, nonetheless. We have what we have, an impotent offense that to date has depended on the defense to get them short fields and special teams to put points on the board with kick returns. We may, however, win a few games if we can keep the opponent under 25 points, it worked last year.

I thought the Defense acquitted themselves well. We are not as athletic as I would like, but we do fly to the ball well and hit people when we get there. I'm still on board with this team.

Honestly, I thought the announcers really sparked a lot of controversy on the officiating. I saw the play as a catch, he already had tapped one foot down with possession. I also was amazed when they questioned the PI call on EMU's last drive when the CMU DB clearly raked his hand down El-Zayat's body before the ball arrived. They actually criticized him for not catching ball. Not good.

Just got done listening to CC's post-game audio and it was garbage.

I like the guy but hearing how "we found out we can be a really good team..." Dude, your 5 games into the season. What are you talking about that you are "learning about your team." What is that? do you think great teams and coaches are saying things like, "a lot of positives to take from this?" Losing sucks and its ok to say that this season has not gone the way we wanted and we will be work to correct the issues that have us with a losing record. I just sometimes want their to be a different level and expectation from this group and it feels like, 'well, credit to them and it was a hard fought game.' woof! Get real and let's set sites on being one of the best and enough with this already. We are 2-3 and need to finish 5-2 to get a bowl game. (I don't think 4-3 will cut it with a win over Howard) and if we finish 5-2 we will be 7-5 on the year coming off a 9-4 season Thats a let down

Dear Friends,
Maybe I'm not seeing or feeling the way some here do, but we were a field goal away from going into overtime. Now that does not mean that Eastern would have ended the game winning it.
However, I thought overall Eastern played a decent game. Again, should we have won it? I think so, but we missed making some plays when we needed them. The complaining here I think is unjustified.

How can you not have a QB in this era of football?

There are 4 or 5 JUCOs in my area of Texas who have better QBs than we do. In this transfer era, how hard is it to find someone who can throw the fricking ball?

This is a wasted year, but it didn’t have to be. We have a decent defense. The coaching staff failed everyone with their inability to find a legitimate FBS starting QB.

Truth, Bovine. It amazes me that the coaches thought this was the guy with the era of the portal. Kids game vs. major college game.

On a more positive note Mike Haney returned to action but some of the other DL have not returned yet. We did not have a productive return on our WRs from the portal.Ditto the OL. Most of the portal guys are not starters. We did well the first half with penalty but then they really hurt us late in the game. I don't think we'll have the season CC thought. Lots of reasons for that more on the offensive side of things although yesterday special teams hurt us with a blocked PAT and missed FG. Lets hope yesterday Austin Smith found his rhythm and continues to improve each game.

RE: Game Day EMU at CMU September 30 2023
On a positive note, the offense finally seemed to have pulse. The team was very played hard and competed which was more then you can say the last couple weeks. There were positives from the game that make me feel like we can at least get back to a bowl.

When you actually get into the game though, it was frustating. It was a game I thought we could (should?) have won. The special teams, which had been our strong point, let us down...the blocked extra point returned for two and missed field goal were obviously the difference in the game. Another tough moment was right before the half, we give them the ball with about a minute left, instead of stoping them and going in with the lead we let them go right down, score, and take the lead. I also would have liked to see us kick the field goal in the 1st instead of going for it on 4th, and of course we don't convert.

Late in the game there were opportunities to put the game away and we didn't do. I thought we got outcoached yesterday.

All that being said we were still right there. Hopefully that carries over to the next two games, both at home and very winnable.

I would agree with you gentlemen. Stating that, McCoy by all reports has a rifle for an arm and is incredibly fast on his feet, apparently however, he does not have what it takes to take FBS snaps. Ike had some great JUCO footage; I assume both Coach and I thought the guy could actually become Mike Glass II at EMU. It is obvious that is not the case, or he would have been playing far sooner. We probably have the current versions of Grissom and Jackson, two QB's who ended up at EMU playing different positions.

Recruiting is done on a budget by position basis. In the past we had FOUR scholarship QB's, today we have three and our starter has the weakest arm since Todd Porter, who reminds me of Austin Smith. I would give an organ to have a Nate Wiegers available to play even though he was immobile. Time to re-align the budget.

Dear Ken,

I just felt like we lost too many battles during the game. Who had more rushing yards? Who had more time of possession? I haven’t checked the stats but CMU special teams had several costly penalties that either pinned them back on offense or have us better field position.

It will be interesting to see how Austin plays the remaining 7 games. If he shows improvement then I think the coaches have an easier portal decision. If he doesn't, then I think they attack the portal. I think it's vital we have a good plan as it impacts recruiting and portal decisions for good wide receivers who will want to play for a good QB who can sling it. Someone mentioned it before, but we might be seeing why Lassitur decided to bail. We lose Knue after this season, and likely only return JB as a good reliable option.

Dear Luckeyone,
Did you see Smith's statistics? Almost 190 yards passing, and 90 yards rushing. Those alone show a much better effort then the last few games. With everything that dealt with the game, like I have stated before, If Gomez makes the field goal at the end, we go into overtime. Not saying we would have won, but the momentum would have been with Eastern.
