Of course it helps playing a team that has beaten you the last 3 years. The game actually reminded me a lot of when we played Elon in 2010 Scott Riddle's senior year.

It makes sense that it is a big push for the one or two big games but do think the team wanted this win badly after the last 3 years but especially last year. From what I gather they felt like they should have one and let it slip away. We are also down this year so teams sense the weakness and are ready to pounce.

The sellout and the heavy marketing for the game was mostly because it was family weekend combined with military appreciation and an opponent that wasn’t going to just be a wet blanket. Those kind of factors are always where we will have our best chance at breaking records.

Not to take anything away from the game or Coastal. Y’all were the first conference game and so that win/loss in itself is pretty important. Coastal during the McCall era has been tough. Add to that, you’re an eastern team and getting thru this gauntlet wont be easy. And of course it’s nice to get a win…that win is a good signal that the Grayson McCall era is finally coming to an end.

That year's Elon game at KBS was App's record attendance game until Miami came to town in 2016. That Elon team was dirty as hell.

Yeah and Scott Riddle was a huge D***

Said Coastal has never played in as good of a Sun Belt environment as last Saturday. Guy has coached one road game and already an expert on the history of the Sun Belt.

That’s not what he said but just a typical fragile ego App Fan to take anything the wrong way.

He was asked if teams are playing 110% against Coastal due to past success and he did say that Ga Southern made a big deal about this game with the biggest crowd and light shows and fireworks and stuff. I think one of the Coastal podcasts said that the whole school was pushing for a sellout from the coach to the president. He said it was a great environment that he wasn’t sure if Coastal had played in a similar environment before other than in Boone. So he actually gave App State credit even though snowflake app fans want to play the victim.

He also said it is just a good conference so you are playing really good teams each week.

Here’s the link of anyone wants to hear it for themselves.

We do the light show and the fireworks at every game. We also typically push one home game a year (usually family weekend (which this was) or homecoming to go for a sellout and break the attendance record. This year it just happened to be CCU.

Correct. Just to add to this, one year the big game was ULM.

Seems a bit disingenuous though. Family weekend last year had 18,738 for JMU after beating Nebraska and with a first year, high profile coach. You didn’t set any records last year for “the big game” when there should have been a good bit of excitement for your program and the opponent.

Your homecoming last year was just slightly lower than family weekend. So I guess homecoming this year be ULM should be close to another record?

Not exactly. This isn’t a fully boolean situation. Last year certainly turned out to be a year to bring hope for the next year, but there were still a ton of non-believer types thru last year. Before playing JMU we had lost to UAB, along with multiple conference games including a disaster game against GSU and whatever happened with Coastal. That in itself killed last year. At that point we were playing for a bowl. The program was on a crazy roller coaster ride from 2016 thru last year and it ultimately killed momentum and excitement. Then when we went air raid a ton of option hardliners cried foul. This year there was finally a sense of heavy optimism preseason. Add to that, being 3-1 there was a lot of marketing for this years family weekend. I wouldn’t be surprised if we tried to do it again for GSU if we are still undefeated in conference at that time.

Yea I'm not so sure about that. Take a look around the conference and we're beginning to see a pretty consistent flow of QB's that can flat out get after it.

While the rivalry bug grows so to does the talent from top to bottom.

All I can say to that is we’ll see. There are plenty of talented QBs out there, but some guys legitimately have those intangibles to take over a game. McCall (up to this year) has been one of those guys.

Honestly, we didn't even need him to take the game over though. We just didn't need to have four turnovers. That's a pretty bad game.

You say bad game but you should go back and watch those interceptions. The first was caused by pressure forcing McCall out of the pocket and the GS player jumped the route. Just good D. The second was overthrown and that's on McCall. The third was tipped into the air and we got a heads up play on D. The last INT was an on target throw through the hands of your receiver and we made another heads up play on D. By my count that's two forced, one on luck on one on McCall.

Not saying they were all his fault but anytime you have 4 turnovers that's a bad outing. Some of it was good defense by GS, some of it was just bad and sloppy execution on offense in general.
