Amazon is bringing ads to Prime
https://www.cnbc.com/2023/09/22/amazon-p...-2024.html

"Amazon is bringing ads to Prime Video — the ad-free option will cost an extra $2.99 a month"

Quote:If U.S. customers don't want commercials, they will have to pay an additional $2.99 a month. Live events and sports will continue to feature ads in this tier, the company said in its announcement.

Ad breaks - just what every fan asked for : )

And it sounds like - unlike scripted shows - sports fans won't be able to buy their way out of them...

RE: Amazon is bringing ads to Prime
Sports fans can never buy out of ads. That’s the entire point of sports for TV networks and streamers.

RE: Amazon is bringing ads to Prime
Amazon’s Prime is irritating me more and more recently. I’m consistently having shipping issues. We’ve had a few issues with returns over the last several months that we never had in the past. We’ve had a couple of instances where we start watching a series that is free as part of Prime and five episodes in it suddenly is no longer free. My wife and I have been trying to move our purchasing dollars away from Amazon.

Isn't the the route everything ultimately goes? Cable TV used to be commercial free to at the beginning. Same old schtick over and over.

RE: Amazon is bringing ads to Prime
I view Prime as "free" to me b/c the wife had it for years before I realized that I could use it to watch TV, too. If they want to throw commercials on it? Ok, whatever, we have commercials on our Hulu and HBO Max stuff, what's a few more on Prime. It's not like we didn't have commercials forever up until cutting the cord last year, anyway.
