We have always been minor league. But we are in a stable conference with well located teams and a good TV deal/payout.

Jones had pretty good success at UVA, including elite 8. Thats more than a lot of coaches can say.

Jeff Jones is very articulate and personable.
Regardless of what you may think of him as a coach, he is knowledgeable and likable in person.

You may not particularly like hearing it, but what else would you call most of the top quarter of G5 schools? When this most recent shift settles, we (& our peer institutions) will be back to the D-1A vs. D-1AA/FBS vs. FCS status. The top 60 schools in 3 leagues, and the rest will work on being in the top 10 of all other football schools, for a playoff spot or bowl.

Yeah I agree, I’ve met Jeff Jones as well. Just because I’ve enjoyed taking to him and he might be a nice guy… doesn’t change the fact that I’m tired of watching him coach my favorite team. Let’s win some ******* games and actually do something or he can hit the road…. His elite 8 and playing days with Ralph Sampson doesn’t mean **** around here. It’s 2023, let’s make some freaking noise already. But I won’t hold my breath.

Imagine liking somebody so much that you don’t mind watching your favorite team get embarrassed in the conference tournament 4 years in a row because the coach is a nice guy. “It’s ok guys, I know we only scored 36 points in the last game of the season, but it’s all gonna be ok, the coach is a good guy!” Give me a break man.

Times. He held on to his previous assistants for way too long, imo. His problem is not coaching, his problem is that they did not recruit well enough. That has changed in the last 12 months.

Also part of being a head coach is having your team ready to play. They flat out quit in the conference tournament. His problem is coaching. But , as you say, his mistakes are well documented. It’s sad we are stuck with him.

Unless I am wrong, JJ has one more year after this coming season. I would say a lot importance would resolve around how this coming season turns out. If we get in the NCAA, maybe Jones will get another extension.
