Coach Delisha Milton-Jones was extended through the 2027-28 season.

Interesting that they wrote a big article with nice graphics etc for this extension, compared to how they were all secretive about the Jeff Jones extension. Personally, I can see keeping DMJ another year or two, but she hasn't been nearly as impressive as I would have hoped. Remember, we should have lost one game earlier in the tournament but had 6 players on the floor and got away with it. I would have given her a 2 year extension to see where she has the program at that time.

She's 46-22 the last 2 seasons. Of course she's getting an extension.

I'm not sure if that's the case for this particular situation, but I absolutely know they read/listen to these boards.

DMJ, go earn that money girl.

2020-21: 13-11, lost in Conference Semis to Rice 62-60 (Rice lost in CUSA champ)
2021-22: 24-10, WNIT appearance, lost in 2nd round
2022-23: 22-12, lost in Conference Semis to JMU 70-64 (JMU Sun Belt Champs)

She's not setting the world on fire but even with the crazy amount of turnover the program has had she is putting out a competitive team out there each season.

Expound, please. Are we talking regular season? Or the portal/roster turnover stuff? Because I know it’s not style of play or the conference tournament. Her team’s record on a neutral court is pretty dang good. What exactly is Delisha doing that reminds you of JJ?

With its rich history in women’s basketball, the bar should be so much higher. Like JJ, DMJ isn’t competing at a national level. When’s the last time they beat a power 5 school? Even a bad one? She’s padding wins against terrible competition.

2022 season. They beat Auburn and Texas Tech. She's 2-1 against P5s in her 3 seasons. And her first season was the delayed post-Covid season with a limited non-con.

Welp, good point. You didn't have to look too far back for that one. She beat two of the worst teams in their conferences that year. It all goes back to expectations. If the expectation is for the team to be in the top half of the Sun Belt, then an extension is merited. If the expectation is to be a Top 75 program, then she's failed. Other mid majors can do it without the history ODU has. No reason we can't do it.

DMJ is not a good coach IMO. The program is headed in the wrong direction (it was going upward under Nikki). She is not a good recruiter and I believe she is also not a good in-game coach. This is merely my opinion, this is the first time in almost 30 years that I did not renew by women's basketball season tickets. The major programs Football, Men's and Women's Basketball have not flourished but instead have floundered under Wood. The decision to extend DMJ is a terrible one IMO and goes along with other terrible coaching decisions that Wood makes. Am I saying all his decisions are terrible, no, but I feel that more often than not they are. I realize from a credentials standpoint DMJ is AWESOME but for me that is where it ends and it seems clear to me her credentials aren't going to improve the other aspects of the program that are lacking.

ODU should be a top 1 or 2 women's basketball program in the Sun Belt and CUSA previously, year in and year out and that is not happening and I don't believe will happen under the current coaching staff.

I do believe every single freshman she has recruited has left the program in her tenure (there might be 1 or 2 that didn't), and they usually leave after 1 year, she backfilled with JUCO and community college transfers this past season. Sorry but that doesn't sound like a winning recipe to me.

She finished 3rd two years ago and 1 game back from a tie for first last season (big log jam at the top of the league). She's got the program right where you expect it despite all the turnover and your thoughts on her coaching talent.

If you guys stuck to the roster churn as your top concern, I'd agree. It will be very hard to sustain any real success with the amount of new players she gets each year and could result in an absolutely awful season or two that could destroy any positives she has done for the program.

However, if we're basing extensions on results, I find it hard to see anything that says she doesn't deserve one. And I find even less to justify her extension being a good reason to fire Wood, which was the entire point of this discussion. Now, as stated previously, there are plenty of other things to want a new AD for. But this aint one of them.
