The athletic has put CC in the running for IU.
Dan, sportswriters know what a remarkable job Creighton has done. Boosters, however, do not. All they see is a 52-67 W-L record and that does not pass their "smell test". Mark Stoops was all ready to be hired at A&M until the boosters could not stomach his 35-55 conference record. Kentucky was Vandy in SEC football before he arrived but all they see is 35-55 and that is not good enough.

Yep. He does not have the cache for a P5 gig.

Think about Sean Lewis for a second. He did a hell of a job at a tough place to win, Kent St. He left there, however, to be a coordinator at a P5 program. I presume he is making similar money, $1.2M, to his predecessor, Brady Hoke. That is TOLEDO money in freaking San Diego! Not too shabby. How much of a launch pad is the MAC for head coaches, in today's world? Just asking.

I was surprised by Lewis; I had heard Deion demoted him during the season. I don’t know if that’s true, but they had a disappointing year overall anyway.
Whatever — good for him.

My 2c...
I am NOT convinced Deion is a good coach..
He won at Jackson State with talent that could run the table in the MAC. I have NEVER seen a non-P5 team recruit the way he did. Marshall 25 years ago recruited like crazy, but they wouldn't hold a candle to the talent he had at JSU. JSU is FCS.
At CO he ran off tons of players, started fast and died like a dog. His son, a talented QB,
was like food for hungry dogs.
A smart AD knows that Lewis wasn't responsible for the mess of Deion's creation.

Yeah lewis got demoted part way though the season in sort of a public way. I don't blame him for taking the first train out of town. San Diego is a hell of a landing spot.

See this right here. He's absolutely going to lose an assistant or two.

The HC of JMU is going to Indiana.
Bottom line: want a HC position with a P5 program have a good resume.

Or none, just be a coordinator at a very good program.
I'm hateful of Creighton's bowl game extension, but when he took the EMU job, he probably assumed cement shoes, he ain't going anywhere. As of now, I am thankful we have him.

Dear Friends,
All this talk about Sean Lewis being some wonder boy, I think needs to be tempered a bit. His record at Kent State was 24-31, and he did win a bowl game, but I don't think as a coaching talent, he is really any better than Chris Creighton.

I mean he did make a MAC championship in his fourth year so there's also that.

Dear EagleHawk,
So, is that the qualifier? Making it to the championship game, but losing?

I mean if we're comparing him to Creighton, it's a pretty big accomplishment that he has over him.

Dear emu79,
I'm somewhat confused by your Ron Cooper comment. He didn't go to any championship game, or is it he had a losing record, but still, was hired for a supposedly better job. He did not perform well at Louisville, and lost the job there. Let's see how Sean Lewis does at San Diego State.
