RE: MAC Expansion Candidates
Would have been better with a "none of the above" option.
I have yet to get an answer to the Q. - "WHY MAC expansion?"
Just because it seems every other conference is doing it, in reality it is the P5 conferences that are moving to separate themselves from us.
There is nobody we could add to the MAC that would bring any value. All it would do is dilute the pitiful amount of $$ split among conference members. We will still be what we are. There is nothing that will change that.

Exactly. After watching how bad our teams perform in non-conference games against P5 schools, I can't imagine any school wanting to join the MAC.

RE: MAC Expansion Candidates
Jon Steinbrecher joined Robin Hook at halftime of the CommUniversity night. It really doesn't sound like expansion is on the table. For a school to join the MAC they would need to be within our regional footprint.
If we were going to expand, none of those schools in the original poll would fit the criteria. We need a school that is already within our footprint of North Illinois area, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, or Western New York.

RE: MAC Expansion Candidates
The MAC is in little to no danger of losing members, so the only reasons really to expand would be to gain money in a TV deal (or raise level of play which would normally go hand in hand). Most candidates would do the opposite by diluting the pool as mentioned earlier.
Of the programs potentially looking for a home, UConn in all sports would qualify because of basketball but that will of course never happen. WKU.. maybe, but they probably wouldn't move the needle for media deals. I'm not really seeing it.

The MAC may be in danger of losing schools that may want to move to FCS. That's the only threat of movement I see. Some schools offer the absolute minimum number of sports to qualify as D1. It's not cheap and the MAC payout is pretty weak.

They still have to be D1 to go to FCS

Yes but there are lower requirements. To be FBS you need to offer 16 varsity sports (6 men's and 8 women's). To be FCS you only need to offer 14 varsity sports (6 men's minimum and 7 women's minimum)
