CAA Football 2023
Not a ton of action in week 0, but Albany did trounce Fordham, 34-13.

Fordham was expected to drop off some this year, but they were receiving votes in the preseason top 25.

Also a full house at UAlbany, 8,500 according to ESPN. Nice to see the support up there for the program.

RE: CAA Football 2023
CAA Thursday action:

Wake is up by 16 on Elon

Rhode Island was up 28-21 on Georgia State, but they've come back. (Edit: ESPN Showed that it was 42-28, now it says GSU is up 36-35. Not sure what's going on, maybe something got called back)

Delaware is up 37-13 on Stony Brook

UAB is up 21-3 on NC A&T

For our OOC schedule, Chuck South beat D2 North Greenville 13-10, so anything but a blowout would be kind of disappointing.

North Greenville was at the Charleston Southern 6 when the game ended. False start penalty resulted in a game-ending 10-second runoff.

Charleston Southern plays at Clemson next week. There is a school of thought that suggests said contest may be slightly uncompetitive.

In a weird personal scheduling situation:

- Wofford plays at Pitt tomorrow, then us next week.

- Next week as you mentioned, Charleston Southern has a game at Clemson, then we travel to Charleston Southern.

I have daughters at both Pitt (junior) and Clemson (freshman) and I am a W&M alumnus.

I'll be a bit sick of seeing Wofford and Charleston Southern over the next few weeks...03-lol

I have one daughter who is a USAFA grad and was stationed at the Academy until about 6 months ago. I just missed out on the perfect opportunity to mix family and Tribe sports with the Academy hosting the Tribe for a week this year.

The other daughter is a UVa grad so I need an upset in Charlottesville this year

I think we might be favored against UVA.

RealTimeRPI predicts UVA 36 W&M 10.

We definitely will not be a betting favorite, even last year (per Sagarin rankings) we'd be about 9 point underdogs.

But, I do think we should be able to play a competitive game against them, and it wouldn't be as big of an upset as an FCS vs P5 game usually is.

Let's wait and see what the line looks like the week of the game. UVA is going to be real bad this year.

Let's see. UT game may not tell us much. I will be in Charlottesville the next week when the Hoos take on JMU. That game may be more illustrative.

http://www.warrennolan.com predicts W&M losing 24-28. That seems like room for a shakeup. I couldn't even get the realtimerpi site to load so I'm not putting too much faith into it.

RE: CAA Football 2023
The last thing we need is to be favored.....especially after UVa loses to Tenn. and JMU. Losing to W&M (after that) would just not be tolerated. We'd be called for holding on every offensive play and encroachment or roughing the passer or pass interference on every defensive play. I hope UVa beats JMU so that perhaps we can take them more by surprise.

An interesting game to watch on Saturday will be Albany at Marshall to see if Albany with Poffenberger will be taking a step up the ladder come CAA play after their solid win over Fordham last week.

UNH crushed Stonehill, and Nova rolled Lehigh.

Not CAA related, but Norfolk State dropped a game to D2 Virginia State

Albany up 10 - 0 on Marshall, midway through the 3rd.

Poffenbarger ran for a 54 yd TD on 4th down to give Albany a 17-7 lead in the 3rd.

Circle Nov. 4th on the schedule. That will be a tough out at their place.

Morgan State forced a Spider fumble on UR's 10 yard line, then score on their first play to take a 17-7 lead with 6 minutes left.

Morgan State (preseason #4 in the MEAC) just handed Richmond their first ever home opening loss at Robins Stadium, 17-10.

Richmond looked awful. Bad, bad loss for the CAA. Michigan St will eat Richmond alive next weekend. Wish they were coming to Zable instead!
