RE: Bucknell Game
Odd seeing 2 true freshmen on the offensive 2-deep, especially when we brought enough transfers to fill those spots.

I'm as pro Cig as they come right now. He's proven himself to me multiple times in multiple seasons.

So this is not a negative - but I scratch my head when Cig says our best receiver has been a transfer WR from ECU who caught a total of 1 pass in three years with the Pirates. ECU. at best, was even with us last year.

Speaking of ECU, while I'm rare JMU Houston fan - I hope:

1) They lose big at Michigan (Game 1)
2) They lose at home vs Marshall (Game 2)
3) They lose at ASU (Game 3)
4) They win the AAC (season)

That one catch was actually pretty nice if you go watch the video of it

ECU may have talent, that doesn't mean Donnie K knows what to do with it. I remember a lot of head scratchers with him. We won under MH because of Trott.

Absolutely, I'll give Houston credit for bringing Trott to us, it ends at that point.

That and the "lock the damn gates" speeches. He's still using those, would think at some point it gets old. It worked for us for a couple years.

Also at little surprised that not one of our CB transfers from Michigan St, NC State and Indiana have not cracked the 2 deep. Fleishmann alluded to that during camp. Still, thought someone out of the 3 would break out and crack the two deep depth chart.
All 3 guys are still young and are probably underweight for the FBS grind (168, 173 and 178 lbs.). Perhaps a year in the weight room will help.

There are a lot of reasons why he did not succeed at ECU but will be great here. We've had guys transfer in from Rutgers and other schools where they didn't sniff the field and became great players for us so who knows.

The biggest reason why he will succeed here unlike he did at ECU is because Donnie is a certified moron and Lame Brain, I mean Mike Houston, isn't bright enough to see it.

Cig may seem more mild mannered but he gives some pretty firey speeches pre-game as well. I think the difference is Cig knows how to temper the "You tell em I'm coming and Hell is coming with me!" speeches with matter of fact assessments and pleasant (if stonewalling) interviews. MH only knows DEFCON levels 3 to 1.

Sure, my point was MH is STILL using the exact same "lock the damn gates" line at ECU. Does that really have the same effect after 3 or 4 years?

No probably not, especially if you use it year to year. With kids rotating out every few years you can recycle in college some, but not every season.

Maybe if Houston washes out at EZU he can become a motivational speaker who keeps saying, “I live in a van down by the river”, I mean “Lock the damn gates”

It’s an insult to Matt Foley for comparing the two. I’ve never seen Houston fall through a coffee table for the team.

I will go to my grave believing he threw the Colgate playoff game with that stupid fake punt so he could get out of Harrisonburg sooner. I'll always respect him for the championship, and I don't even begrudge him taking a bigger job with a much bigger salary. But how you do things is just as important as the things you do.

You thinking he game planned to have Ben throw 5 interceptions?

That's fine, but he didn't make DiNucci throw 5 INTs. It is hard to coach your way back from that many turnovers.

63-3 Dukes. Would love to see a defensive or special teams TD mixed in there.

Should be up 21-0 by the end of the first quarter.

Dukes 70-7. Tailgate is awesome and good times were had by all. Bucknell has more gumption than ODU and finishes the game in spite of the score.

Will be interesting to see how the new clock rules will impact the score spreads in these week 1 blowouts. 6-8 less snaps per game could cause some scores to look "closer" than they would've in the past.
