UT XC/Track & Field 23-24
Cross Country season starts on 9/1 and there was a post out that at least 1 publication, The Stride Report, has the UT women as the #22 team in their preseason rankings.

You can see the title of the article here:
https://www.thestridereport.com/post/tsr...do-rockets
but the rest is behind a paywall.

The Rockets also announced all their newcomers on the men's & women's XC and track teams in several social media posts in the last week. Lots of newcomers, including several transfers and some internationals, although they didn't provide any further info other than name and where they are coming from.

Interesting is that on the track side, UT seems to have signed a javelin thrower and a pole vaulter. UT hasn't had any field athletes in the last couple years.

UT's Dennis Mutai wins the MAC Men's Cross Country Championship!

Unfortunately, the Rockets can't pull off the team champ as again they finish 2nd behind Akron's 55 points to 59 for UT. Akron had dropped men's XC during COVID, but they just reinstated this year. BG finishes dead last on their home course.

Women's race up at Noon.

Rocket women 3-peat, taking the MAC Championship again, although it was much closer than last year, as Toledo finished with 69 points. EMU in 2nd with 76. CMU took the individual title.

Laura Nicholson, Irish runner and grad-transfer from Temple finished best for UT in 6th place.

Looks like some of Toledo's best runners did not run today, including Joy Chirchir. Unsure if the team has been battling injuries or what?

Joy has not been herself this year. Maybe injured. Still, great Rocket win, first MAC Championship of many more to come this year!

I don't believe Chirchir or Linga (Both all-region) ran any races this season. Our two best runners.

Toledo swept the Men and Women COY as the men nearly won their first title and had the individual champ, Dennis Mutai.

3 Rockets ran mile times that place in the top 10 in school history at the Michigan Invitational, led by Laura Nickolson's 4:37 which was 3rd best in school history and is currently 16th best in the country.

Kenyan freshman Mercy Kinyanjui reportedly ran the 2nd fastest 5000m in school history at the Raleigh Relays this week. 16:01.38 is the 32nd fastest time in the country so far this season and the fastest in the MAC by almost 20 seconds.

Anyone know what happened to Joy Chirchir, who was an NCAA qualifier? Only ran one race last season and nothing this season that I can see. Still on the roster.
