Dilfer has a lot to prove. It's a fair assessment.

From a betting perspective, which is how Action Network is approaching it, it is a reasonable assessment and they lay out their reasoning. I think they don’t know what they don’t know …

We lost our beast of a running back and lost majority of our offensive line, so yeah I can see how national pundits think we wouldn't do as well this year with our tough schedule. It's a wait and see. Preseason speculation is just that - speculation.

I wouldn’t be absolutely shocked if we were under 4.5 wins. I would be shocked if it was an absolute lock like he seems to think. It takes time for new players to gel, and throwing in an entirely new coaching staff on top of it is really a lot of change. I have high hopes for this staff, but my big question is how long will it take for them to begin to succeed at their jobs.

I have high hopes for the staff. I know a lot of them weren't in charge of the room where they were, but there are a lot of excellent programs. I know the one person Dilfer is most confident in is the one Im most concerned about. I with our DC had more college experience

As for Dilfer himself, he has proven at the pro level he knows how to lead. Yeah, its been awhile, but Jose traits are ingrained,

THIS, I'm not not sold on the DC. X and O don't change, but the level of implementation and execution does. He does have assistants from various programs with some experience that I hope he can and will lean on if he's in a jam.


I don't have HIGH hopes for his first season, but I do want to be left feeling the program is in good hands moving forward. 4-8 lowest/6-6 expected/8-4 highest out look for me

This is the line I was pointing towards. The easiest bet to win in all of college football this year is Dilfer failing

You can actually get plus-money (+124, FanDuel) by taking Under 4.5 wins in Dilfer’s debut, which is why this is my favorite win total across all of college football.

Let's make all of them a loser by week 8 if not sooner.

Games 7-12 will tell us a lot. How does Dilfer handle adversity? When things don’t go your way? Can he keep a locker room of players together who didn’t sign up to originally play for him? That’s what I’m looking at more than the actual score of the games. This season is going to be a grind, and Dilfer appropriately refers to it as a “journey.”

The NY Post is a tabloid that likes flashy headlines. So saying “THESE TEAMS WILL SUCK” is right up their alley.

I didn’t know y’all’s o/u was that low. I’d probably take the over 4.5 if I were making a bet.
