It definitely seems that way so far 03-rotfl

This team really is special this year as it tells you a lot when your Coach isn't pleased with the shutout by any means and assumes we should've performed better....

It's still early and these numbers are still prone to fluctuate wildly in the next few weeks, but through Matchday 2, the SBC is #1 in Conference RPI :
http://rpiupdatemenssoccer.blogspot.com/...RPI%20Rank

And JMU wakes up this morning #1 in RPI thanks to their 2 impressive wins over Duquesne and UCLA:

CoachMaclid's SBC Matchday 2 Plays of the Week

SBC OFFENSIVE PLAY OF THE WEEK
JMU's Balint Kocso headers in a ball from outside the 18 for the game-winning goal vs UCLA.

SBC DEFENSIVE PLAY OF THE WEEK

UK's Max Miller places himself in support of his keeper to preserve the shutout. UK would find the game winner a few moments later.

Happy to see some UCF fans finding this thread as well. Do you all have pretty good attendance for your soccer matches?

I’m pretty sure we had over 1,400 for our season opener. It was the 8th largest crowd that week. Thought it would be more, but we also raised requirements to purchase season tickets this year.

But for now we can dream that is how they will finish. They project 4 bids from the Sun Belt into the tournament with Marshall first out.

With the addition of UCF this year, the SBC should be a 3 bid conference year in year out now.

I think we should be a 4 or 5 bid conference year in year out. Remember, last season the SBC had just about had its worst case scenario possible - WVU had an awful OOC performance, we got some of the wrong results in the conference tournament, etc... The NCAA pretty much uses only RPI to seed the tournament, and we ended up with something like 4 of the first 8 out.

I think there's 7 teams in the league right now that thinks they are legitimately believe they are playing for an NCAA birth this year. We won't get that many, but I think we could push for 5 this year.

Just wanted to point out this is the third consecutive season that Marshall and Kentucky have both appeared together in the Top 5 in the same weekly poll.

Wait a sec.

Syracuse has 8 first place votes…..which is ALL of them..

Only 8 (!?!?) voters in this poll?

Damn. I’m happy to see JMU in it and all the sun belt love, but I have a hard time taking a poll for much when only 8 voters.

College Soccer is a slight revenue producer for Marshall now, which is an encouraging sign of where we may head... Not even Kentucky charges for their Soccer matchups, it's free to attend.

What would really take college Soccer to the next level is a split Fall/Spring season. Interest would really pick up after Basketball...

Oh wow. I didn’t know that. I was hoping we would one day become self-sufficient. I didn’t know we were actually a revenue producer. That’s amazing.

RE: 2023 SBC Men's Soccer Thread
Marshall beats Xavier 3-0, which makes this the third consecutive shutout this season.

In his Marshall debut, Pablo Simon made quite an impact. The junior tallied MU's second goal of the contest on an assist from Rai Pinto in the 12th minute, while assisting on Adam Aoumaich's first goal of the season with a cross at the 57:40 mark.

Coach Grassie also mentioned that Simon is the best player that he's ever seen/coached, which granted he's 24-years old and has played on several CF club teams, with the most recent being Orihuela CF (prior to him coming to play for Marshall).

As mentioned Pitt is going to be a great game to pay attention to and it's quite possible that Marshall could be going into that game as a #2 seed seeing how Cuse and Duke tied, and both UK and Pitt lost. 04-cheers

RE: 2023 SBC Men's Soccer Thread
Three really huge Top 25 games for the conference tonight -

#5 Marshall at #8 Pitt - 2 Top 10 teams set to do battle in Pittsburgh.
#7 FIU at #13 UCF - The Knights are currently sitting #1 in RPI.
#2 Kentucky at #14 Louisville

Currently, the SBC is still the #1 RPI conference in the country, with 3 teams now in the RPI Top 7 (UCF is #1, JMU #4, Marshall #7). These three results tonight would go far in helping the SBC secure the top conference rating.

Other action tonight:
Wofford at Georgia State
Coastal at College of Charleston
WVU at American
UNCW at South Carolina
JMU at Gardner-Webb
