Thanks for sharing these NFL updates on some very special Bearcats.

All this reinforces the fact that we watched excellent players on great defensive units the past couple of years. The bar is set high for Coach Satt's defensive unit this year and I'm very hopeful the tradition can continue at a high level on his watch.

FWIW... Lewis Riddick just talked up Brian cook as the emerging leader on the Chiefs' defense on NFL Live.

His "feel good" story just continues to get better. Congratulations to him for finishing his degree. It speaks well for Sauce and his family and sends a strong, positive message to kids that an NFL star still sees the value of graduating.

I was blown away that Pace didn't get drafted and I'm so disappointed in the Bengals for not grabbing him. Hometown kid who was the best player on the Bearcats defense and probably the best defensive player in the entire AAC last year. I don't care about size measurements. If a kid is getting it done at a high level college program he's got to be on your radar. It wouldn't have even cost them a draft pick.

Crazy how many scouts stuck with the outdated thought process than a few inches of height are worth more than a few miles of great tape.

It's the same reasoning as to why we only had him for a year as opposed to four.

Yep, sticking to antiquated measurable "requirements" rather than play on the field has cost a lot of good players some draft day hair loss over the years.

it's pretty wild no team saw the value in taking a late round waiver on him. teams do plenty of headscratching things in the draft and no one would have questioned anyone taking him in say the fifth round; fourth

This Ivan Pace situation makes me wonder if the NFL actually looks at guys as players as opposed to just a list of measurements.

Just seems that the combine is more important to those clowns than game tape.

My local high school has a skinny kid who will play tight end as a sophomore this year. He played no varsity last year, but is getting offers from various Big Ten schools (and others) because apparently he has the prototypical body for an NFL offensive guard. Have the weight room guy put some weight and muscle on him and you have a probable P5 / possible NFL player.

Late round picks are tough...they cost more than a UDFA with very little upside. 7th rounders who are cut cost more than UDFAs who make the squad.

Yep...there are always a few 1st rounders who show nothing special on tape but have a monster workout.

I recall the famous line from Brad Pitt in the movie Moneyball; "If he's a good hitter than why doesn't he hit good?"

The defensive player of the year in any P6 conference should be drafted regardless of size or speed. If the dude is gettin it done at that level who cares what his measurements are.
