Didn’t hear JJs interview, but have heard through the grapevine that there doesn’t seem to be a ton of optimism coming from the inside. When did Allette get hurt?

When was the last time there was really any optimism? We are going to probably be a .500-ish team and get bounced early (again) from the SB tournament.

There is 0 optimism. They totally failed the front court recruiting, and lost the best player from last year. This team is likely going to be a lot worse than what we put on the floor last year. They won't be able to shoot, and won't be very physical. I knew this was coming and that's why I wanted him out after that first conference tournament game. It is what it is though!

I actually was optimistic 2 & 3 seasons ago, For 21/22 we had Trice and Kalu down low, Hunter, Long, AJ & Keyser outside... that should have been a very good team. In 20/21 we had Mekhi, Curry, Reece, Trice, Kalu, X, AJ, Hunter, that should have been a great team too. After we choked both of those seasons I completely gave up on JJ and was ready for a new coach. I won't expect good things from this staff any more. If it happens, great. I'll be happy. I just don't get my hopes up any more.

Thank you for the clarification. Sounded like you meant from the program. And I got a polar opposite vibe after talking with the players and staff at practice recently.

If anyone should have optimism it should be the staff & players. Fan's lack of optimism only counts if we show it in the arena.

Very optimistic here. The speed should be fun to watch.

Nothing earth shattering coming from Jones. Most of it was already posted on this board.

Jones calls it 4 guards, but he uses that kinda generously (comparing it to the 2019, where he calls X and Stith guards). Blakney and Williams are 6-5/6-6 and really bouncy so you can call them guards or you can call them forwards. Blakney will likely replace the role that Long played, albeit with better defense. Williams will likely be similar to the TSG role, but is not really a shooter from deep.

Center is the question mark, obviously, but they have 4 guys that will play (Williams, Pounds, Hood, Odiahi). I'm skeptical of Leroy (mainly a shot blocker) but people within the program seem to be more optimistic with him. I think Hood will be the center that is needed if foul trouble occurs. I think we see more of Pounds than people on here think. The dude has the athleticism to be one of the best big players were have had in the last decade. I can't believe people on here were dissing him.

Devin Ceaser is a guy that I think could contribute this year. Sounds like he's gonna be a combo guard that attacks off the dribble.

Chaunce Jenkins has the talent to be first team all conference. Hopefully he takes over that responsibility and becomes the leader of the team.

Vasean Allette is the best freshman we have had in years.

I think we see a significant jump with Bryce Baker this year. He is a guy that can shoot but hopefully other parts of his game continue to grow.

Im not sure what the record will be this year. My main concerns are youth and the center position (whether Williams finishing improves). But, I can't help be excited about seeing the young players on this team all play significant roles (Pounds, Allette) as well as the growth in Jenkins to see if he becomes an all conference player. But, there are a lot of freshman and soph that have more talent than players we have had in years (Baker, Ceaser, Pounds, Allette). These guys are potential building blocks for the future if they stay.

Four straight conference tournaments without a win. And the last game was 65-36.

Study his record Bailey. few division championships, few conference champs, few NCAA appearances combined with few (any) tourney wins.Many first round losses in conference championships, history of highly touted new players who never seem to live up to potential, boring style of play emphasizing defense with abysmal offensive production.No 3 point shooters' and guys who can rebound well but can't make put backs.

JJ said yesterday this is an adjustment year for Pounds, to me meaning he is not getting meaningful minutes. But Jones did say he has tremendous physical talent.

Vasean Allette was rated as the 20th best combo guard in the 2023 class by 247. Wish we had been recruiting at that high a level to make it a rinse and repeat. If we had, we wouldn't be having this discussion.
