My wife and I are driving through Harrionsburg in a couple of weeks. We have a kid and she found the A Dream Come True playground that's close to campus. We're either stopping on the way down or the way back, or both.. Anything we need to know about the park or area, like how difficult is parking and such. We know there's a McDonald's so we can grab the kid some lunch and let him burn off energy before we get back on the road.

Any pointers?

Parking is really easy in Harrisonburg so you shouldn't have to worry about that.

For future trips I would also recommend Purcell Park (close to JMU as well) which is currently rebuilding their Kid's Castle.

We stopped at that playground often when our kids were smaller and they loved it. Plenty of parking and really easy to get to from I-81. You'll use Exit 245 (Port Republic Rd) which is the main exit closest to JMU.

JMU is very easy to get in and out of thanks to 81. You'll have no issues with parking and it should be relatively quiet until students are back. Check out our stadium while you're there, your team will lose there in a few years! 04-cheers

My family and I stopped in Harrisonburg for lunch on the way down from visiting friends in Maryland last year. We did a quick drive through campus/downtown. I was immensely impressed.

I've spent many hours watching my kids run around that playground. If you have some time, there is a great "drive through" safari park just off of I81/exit 180 that I'm sure your kid would love.

You haven't lived until a buffalo has stuck its head inside your car trying to steal your bucket of feed!
