Anybody else thinking about going besides Grammar Nazi and Lair Dweller? I will, if it doesn’t conflict with football.

The Nicky Norton Cup!

This is a really good addition, the sort of program we need to be playing. Drake has a proud history and recent success, too.

Yep. Never can plan too early. 03-wink

Also, Arkansas State home and home starting in Arkansas this year. I’d like to go to that one as well. I haven’t seen a UAB game in Iowa or Arkansas, so that’ll add two more states for me.

A series with drake is great, and definitely the type of school most of us having scream for us to schedule games and series with.

I hope they are a good NET team the next two years, but even if not, this is the type of series UAB should be making. Process over results - scheduling these type of games with other historically strong G5 programs will more often than not be a very positive thing for us.

Good job AK and staff! Do more of this!

Drake's net ranking at the end of last year was 59. Arkansas State was 285.

On our end, AState has completely rebuilt the entire roster and signed 2 kids out of the portal that most thought would end up at a P5.

SBC is kicking in OOC scheduling requirements as well now that the new membership is settled. I don't anticipate our NET being that terrible this year.

I know AK has mentioned playing MTSU and WKU but anyone else besides me think that wouldn't be exciting at all? One of the 2 I get but we just played both of these teams for 10 years straight, lets get some new faces on the schedule. I somewhat get bringing USM back since at least they won their league and should be alright but those past CUSA teams just don't hit like getting Drake on the schedule

Hell, I don’t even want to play more than 10 of our new conference peers as I know they won’t help put butts in seats. Especially don’t want to play the old conference foes. Scheduling needs a shake up.

Drake is the only one that fits the bill for me, so far. Maryland(no way they should’ve been in the dance, didn’t win 60% of conference games) and Clemson have coaches on the hot seat, I don’t expect them to make it thru next spring. Davidson, I’d appreciate more if it was home and home. That’s a higher caliber game than Ark state…

RE: UAB to start a home and home with Drake starting this season in Birmingham
The Arkansas State one is just weird. I don't know why we agreed to a home and home there. If we take an early season L to them, which is possible depending on the date, we could essentially destroy our at large chances before we sniff conference play. I cannot imagine there was no other historically reasonable NET team we couldn't have gotten in their place. Maybe their new coach will turn it around quickly?

I am okay with MTSU or WKU on some sort of rotating basis. Both are historically decent opponents and close enough to Birmingham to not be a travel nightmare. I too don't want to play both yearly, but one or the other is fine with me if it takes away a SWAC game, which appears to be something we are working toward with this schedule right now. I am happy with that.

With Frank Martin now at UMass, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them on our schedule soon. I have 0 insight, just a guess.
