It's all much more sinister than that. The use the term White Nationalist because of several reasons:

1. It has mental ties to Nazi Germany and the Klan and so produces a kneejerk public reaction.

I actually agree with you about the vast overuse of the term "white nationalist." It has an actual meaning, and I have always found it to be gross and insanely moronic for the Dems to attempt to paint all Trump supporters as fascists' and white nationalists. There are several million voters who voted for Obama twice and then voted for Trump in 2016, and the Dems have never spent a second trying to conceptualize why that would happen, they'd rather just demonize all of those people. Overusing inflammatory terms like that does nothing but eventually make people roll their eyes every time they hear it, which is bad. An example on the left is the Israel lobby has weaponized calling anyone and everyone who offers any critiques of Israel's actions towards Palestinians as anti-Semitic, and now it's pretty much reached the point where if I hear anyone in the AIPAC or related interest groups orbit accuse someone of being anti-Semitic I pretty much just assume it's crap. That's not actually a good thing because there are real anti-Semite's out there and they have cried wolf too many times to ever be believed.

Mitch is done. He won’t run again. He’ll be a month from his 85th birthday when his current term ends.

If he does decide to run again he’ll get primaried for his age alone. Mitch won’t take a chance of losing in the primary. It would ruin his legacy.

Particularly considering that the basic tenets of fascism are far closer to the democrats' platform than to the republicans'. Powerful central government micromanaging actions of its citizens is a democrat dream, not a republican one. And recent tactics of DOJ/FBI/CIA/DHS toward republicans/conservatives is much closer to Gestapo/KGB tactics than anything republicans have ever supported.

By the way, racism and white supremacy are not core fascist beliefs. They were Nazi, but remember that Nazi was a merger of fascism and nationalism, and the white supremacy part came from the nationalism side, not the fascism side.
