Former Blazer DeMarcus Rodgers’ barbecue restaurant opens today
I don’t know if you guys know DeMarcus Rodgers. He played linebacker for us twenty or so years ago, and he is a good friend. He has had a great barbecue food truck the past few years, called Kuntri Kitchen, and he is opening a brick-and-mortar restaurant in the Avondale area of Birmingham today (July 3). I would certainly recommend it, not just to support a fellow Blazer, but because his barbecue is delicious! Meat candy!

Here are the details:

July 3 starting at 12 p.m. 101 40th St S 35222 "Taste Like Good"

It’s at Elysian Gardens, which is a very cool setting, but there is no indoor seating, which isn’t great when it’s this hot (or when it rains).

Still, I love the Que.

Always love to see somebody pursue their passions and be successful doing so...

But I will still say it.

Birmingham has too damn many BBQ places. I love it - my family and my girlfriend's family loves it...but you mix the number of BBQ joints and BBQing at home too. It's overboard.

Honestly, I'm surprised they would go to an area that already has SAW's, Rodney Scott's, and a food truck at Avondale's that usually sells either straight up BBQ or BBQ-adjacent things (Korean BBQ, BBQ tacos, etc).

Seems like a saturated market to me, but maybe I'll check it out soon anyway.
