RE: Wrestling
Not to hijack the wrestling thread, but the nursing school fiasco, and saving the new PA, and PHD in physical therapy, are gonna be the main focus for the next couple years for Hurley and the gang. He’s got to right the ship for his future. Just forget about this wrestling fantasy. It’s not gonna happen without big time help from outside the University.

Tarleton Wresting will be club in 24-25 with all of this year’s signees redshirting and then NCAA D1 beginning in 25-26. Women’s wrestling will be NCAA approved in either 25-26 or 26-27.

RE: Wrestling
We’re about 4 million short on football. 2 million short on basketball. No telling how short we are in all other sports. That’s just to be competitive in FCS. Where is the money to go FBS and join CUSA? And then fund a wrestling program? Please! Wrestling in ‘27. That sounds good. 28-29? Yeah we’ll rock the house. 33-34, National Champs!

I agree with some of the concerns with your questions and I would love for our new AD to answer them.

RE: Wrestling
There will be no money from the athletic budget going to wrestling. Non revenue sports are all underfunded and that’s supposed to change? Wrestling is gonna get what? From where?
Some Dallas wrestling group? Why not SMU, or UTD?
Again, I’m all for it. My kids wrestled in high school in the Metroplex. It’s a great sport, but it will generate 0 revenue and be a huge drain on the athletic budget.
Am I wrong?

RE: Wrestling
Well if we only sponsor revenue generating sports, Tarleton will only compete in football and maybe men’s basketball. Other schools may have a couple of others.

It’s more than just revenue generation, it’s a wide variety of sport competitions. We are around $20-21 million in just our fourth year of D1. We are growing enrollment which is a major factor for our athletic funding. We are playing money games against FBS schools. We averaged over 17,000 for football and should see an increase in attendance in men’s basketball with the new arena. What impact does attendance (tickets and concessions) have on our athletic budget.

I would love to see our money numbers compared to our fellow WAC and CUSA schools and I love for these to be current and supplied by our athletic department. I would love to hear how we are going to compete with GCU funding and possible FBS schools. This is where our President and AD could inform the fan base. They could also discuss our NIL.

I hope they fully vetted him and got a good reason why he quit his last job right before the season started. A man suddenly quitting a successful program like that sends up a big red flag, especially when you add in that it’s a man coaching women. Not trying to accuse him of anything but the suspicion is obvious.

I do wish y’all well and hopefully this helps the sport grow. Every little bit helps.

Yawn. Tarleton wanted him, so we went and got him. Made him an offer he can't refuse. If we're gonna be the FIRST and ONLY D1 Wrestling program in Texas, we're not gonna halfa$$ it. 05-nono

I never went where you went with this thought. My guess was and still is he quit his previous coaching position so he could take the Tarleton job.
