Exclamation NCAA working to increase cost to transition from FCS to FBS
Moving forward, it could cost FCS schools a minimum of $11 million to join FBS.

Also, the transition fee to move from FCS to FBS would increase by a factor of one thousand, from $5,000 to $5 million.

RE: NCAA working to increase cost to transition from FCS to FBS
I see math isn't that writer's strong point. It is not going to cost $11 million to move up to FBS.

There will be a $5 million transition fee and from 2027-28 forward ALL FBS programs will be required to give a minimium of 90% of the total allowable scholarships with a minimum dollar amount of $6 million annually. The only way the first year cost would be $11 million is for the transition program to be from a non-scholarship level or be a totally new school starting athletics. I doubt there will ever again be a new member or a non-scholarship program transitioning directly to FBS.

For what it's worth, that $6 million annual investment in scholarships was noted in the DI Council report as reasonable and as something most, but not all current FBS members can manage.

It should also be noted that IF this proposal passes, any and all attendance requirements (which weren't enforceable anyway) will be deleted from FBS membership requirements.

RE: NCAA working to increase cost to transition from FCS to FBS
College sports has been a 100 year act/react push/pull between the various financial classes.
This is a pre-emptive move by the upper and lower classes to keep the middle from trying to jump up ahead of a reorganization and big financial restructuring at the top.

The D1 Council also tabled for further discussion - the proposal to allow basketball teams up to two summer games.

Quote:Details of the initial draft concepts included:

• Participation against a Division I opponent in up to two exhibition contests, two scrimmages or one tournament-style event (not to exceed two contests in length) during a summer in which a basketball team is not engaged in a foreign tour.
• The exhibitions/scrimmages could be open to the public.
• Contests could be played only in the second half (weeks five through eight) of a school's permissible eight weeks of required summer athletic activities.
• Student-athletes could not miss class to participate in Basketball Summer Initiative contests, including associated activities such as travel, pregame shoot-arounds, etc.
• Teams could participate in contests within the U.S., a U.S. commonwealth or a U.S. territory.

A survey of all 32 D1 Conferences returned:
69% of Men's Basketball student athletes supported the plan
63% of Women's Basketball student athletes supported the plan
47% of Men's Head Basketball coaches supported the plan

47% of Men's Head Basketball coaches did not support the plan
59% of Women's Head Basketball coaches did not support the plan
>60% of all Administrators and Faculty Representatives did not support the plan
