Anonymous Sun Belt Football Fan Thoughts Part 11 - James Madison
Part One - Coastal Carolina
Part Two - Louisiana
Part Three - Appalachian State
Part Four - Arkansas State
Part Five - Southern Miss
Part Six - Georgia State
Part Seven - ULM
Part Eight - Marshall
Part Nine - Troy
Part 10 - South Alabama

We now hear from the anonymous people about James Madison, the self-proclaimed Kings of the East, held from the postseason by NCAA transition rules. High off a 8-3 inaugural FBS campaign, how do people feel about the Dukes going into their sophomore act?

Some troll answers were deleted, but spelling and grammar were left the same.

They rode a high last year. I expect they take a small step back this year.

Their sophomoric slump will be very disappointing to their fans.

Going places

They will be a contender for the East, they shouldn't be handicapped by the NCAA.

They've been so good I just think it will be hard to maintain that level. 1 less win this season.

Good but not as good as last year

After a hot start to big-boy football, transition will hit a speed bump this year.

Favorable OOC schedule but @ Troy and vs USA were brutal West draws and they are quickly and finally humbled by an FBS schedule that also has Marshall and CCU on the road. Wouldn't sleep on Utah St either their record is a bit misleading from last year with Alabama and BYU on the road

They will compete for the conference championship regularly. Amazing Fan support and resources to succeed.

Will be a great team. They were really good last year, and I think they will be again.

Strong well run program but with turnover at key skill positions

JMU hit the ground running in their first year in the FBS. However they lost their star QB which led the charge. This is their prove it season to see if they are actual competitors in the SBC.

Should be good maybe not quite as good as last year cause everyone will be ready this time. Should be a good atmosphere cause I'm sure last season will help sell tickets for this season.

Anxious to see more of JMU

Will find the 2nd year in the sunbelt to be challenging

Win some games but doesn’t matter no bowl. In 2nd year of Pledgeship

Ready to show what they are made of!!

Hard to predict, but expect a sim8lar result as last year. Poised to be very consistent

Good Team should be in a Bowl

Qb is the question much like app state. Looking forward to the matchup between App and JMU this year.

9-3

a lot of questions regarding them, but i feel like they’ll be strong. somewhere in the ballpark of 8-4.

A QB way from being top flight in the league.

Great add.

Good team. Not as good as their fans think.

Letdown year

Bowl Team

May take a small step back, after an incredible first season in SBC

What a great way to start out your time in the SBC. JMU has top-tier facilities and the momentum to be a great FBS program. I’m glad they came to the Sun Belt.

excited about year 2 and what the dukes have in a quarterback for 2023

Strong; 9-3

Hard to say whether they will repeat the great year they had last year without their QB, and knowing they won't be eligible for any type of post season play. I'd give them the benefit of the doubt with their head coach, one of the two best in the SBC (the other being Jon Sumrall of Troy), and the culture they have around the program. Look for the JMU at Troy matchup to be one of the leagues best games this year.

Depends on their QB. I don't think they'll have as many wins in 2023 compared to 2022.

Great football school and should be conference champs in a few years.

10-2

Definitely a top three team in the SBC this year… with no bowl eligibility

I'll just say they embarrassed the whole conference last year. I love having them but we were not expecting FCS to kick everyone's that hard in just their first year! Hosting UCONN is cool and they already had some good away games scheduled from the FCS days but I'd like to see them host an ACC opponent soon (UVA?).

No idea what to expect this year. Hopefully more of the same.

Are they really as good as last years results?

The new king of the Sun Belt. So much better coached than any other program.

Should be top of the league again, solid

Decent team and should be tough to beat

Need to hit on a lot of guys stepping up to maintain last year’s momentum.

Potential, but need to tone down the arrogance

They lost their star QB, but if they can replace him with another good QB then they'll be competing for a Sunbelt Championship

5-7

Can they maintain?

They will be either 1st or 2nd at the end of the 23 season in the SBC East. Shame they can’t play in a bowl game.

Again, best of the East and probably Best of the SB

Far more complimentary than I would have expected for anonymous feedback. Think I can spot the one Ol Dirty fan in there (5-7) 03-lmfao

This year will be a huge challenge, and we're looking forward to it. We're excited to see Troy and USA. The cross-division games add a little something new each year. Even if we finish 7-5 and miss out on bowling, would still be a good year. Looking forward to UVA, they haven't been willing to play us for 40 years. We owe them a thumping and hope to represent the conference well OOC.

Our fanbase loves the SBC, and it feels like the stadium is going to be packed out this year. Setting season ticket records, and most fans are hoping the stadium expands in a few years, because its getting harder to get seats.

Yeah I wouldve said something about how before joining yalls fanbases seemed pretentious as hell, but now yall have mellowed out and are cool. That or it's just more tolerable since y'all are conference mates and aren't bashing TXST and the SBC anymore.

I've noticed that when the East-West debate comes up some West advocates have acted like JMU didn't play this past season. There's an argument to be made they were the best team in the league. They're the one team that's top 3 in every major offensive and defensive statistic in the conference.

I think some are hesitant to give JMU credit being fresh out of FCS but perspective, but Curt Cignetti has a 3:1 ratio of conference wins to losses in the Sun Belt and a 18:1 ratio in the CAA. Nick Saban couldn't produce a conference record like that.
