If I'm a coach and another school and have been shopping on the UAB roster I'd delete my search history then burn the computer. That doesn't sound like a guy who is going to cut you any slack when it comes to his players

Making threats like this are just giving other coaches a challenge. There’s no rules to stop tampering. Jaylen Key got tampered with and left. No comment.

Mac McWilliams gets tampered with and returns, no comment.

Don’t bring attention we don’t need.

There’s not a player on our roster that 50-60 others schools couldn’t take if they wanted to.

Calling coaches out like that will get them nothing but a raise and better recruits.

College athletes aren’t known for their ability to keep secrets. How do you think so many things from the locker room to gameday leak out? Coaches know if they’re doing something shady. The kids don’t have the same instincts.

Kids have been ratting them out. True if a school has enough money they can get anyone they want once in the portal. You just can actively recruit a kid off a roster. It is illegal. Will it get enforced? Maybe if enough coaches start turning folks in.

I think it’s cute that he thinks it would matter. I like the attitude but is not going to stop anyone

That was my thought too. If I were a player at our level I wouldn't want my head coach trying to stop me if I could get SEC exposure.

its just a warning or deterrent.

If he doesn't throw out the threat of publicly outing the cheating coaches then it might happen more often.

I think people are reading into this incorrectly. Dilfer wants to stop coaches and staff from reaching out to players who at the time had no interest in leaving UAB. People will call Dilfer stupid for this take and meme him but G5 coaches need to grow a pair and do this too. The whole, you have a better chance at the NFL and money at the P5 is true but it can’t change if people don’t do anything about it. I like this from Dilfer a lot

Dilfer didn’t say he would stop the players from going to the SEC. He has basically said the opposite in the past. What he’s saying right now is quit ******* with my players on my roster right now. You cannot legally reach out to them, and Dilfer is saying I will expose you in a whole different level because of who I know. I think he basically let the coaches off last year but not naming names, but is letting everybody know that won’t be the case going forward.

MAC coach 1 writing an email or calling the NCAA about this stuff isn’t going to do much. Dilfer having it plastered all over ESPN is going to force somebody’s hand somewhere.

If you would listen to all of his interviews he is not trying to stop a kid from leaving if he wants to. He will support that player. He is trying to curb programs giving cash offers to guys NOT in the portal. He also wants to make sure a kid is making the right decision. What would you rather do? Start for us or get limited PT and exposure somewhere else, which has happened to a few guys that thought the grass was greener.
