Returning us back to a level of recruiting seen under Bower and Fedora isn't going wild. It's just closing the significant gap that opened under Pappy Buttermilk and widened under Hopson.

3 star DE Aaron Travis 6'6 250 (offers from Ole Miss, MSU, GT, Indiana, UNLV)

Also, a late signee from the spring class: JUCO OT Shardez Taylor 6'4 325. Southern Miss edged out Coastal Carolina to sign him.

And so is South's Kane Wommack. Loading up to move on up.

We could sign UGA's entire championship team and we'd have doubters... Granny said it best, some people ain't happy unless they're b*tching.

I will be very happy when he gets hired away to a P5 program. Dude can flat out coach, and USM's ability to win the west will be limited as long as Wommack is at South AL.

On paper. One thing we should all know by now is that ratings don't always translate to impact. And they still don't have a QB for some reason.

You must not follow USM football closely. And that's understandable.

But Hall literally just signed 2 portal QBs back in December: Billy Wiles 6'3 220 (Clemson) and Holman Edwards 6'1 210 (Houston). Both QBs went through spring practice this year and looked awesome in the spring game. Our QB room this season will be light years better than we've had over the past 5-6 years. QB room is hands down most talented we've had since Nick Mullens-era (2016).

We went 7-6 last year without a QB lol. I can't imagine what we do this year.

We also have a Commitment since last summer from John White.

How many spots does App have left? We seem to be ringing up a bunch now too. Haven't kept track of the count, but commits seem to be coming sooner this year. Not sure if it's related to FBS recruiting cycle changes, or other factors.

I think a lot of high school players (and juco) are realizing that if they don't commit early, they could get left out. Lots of schools are signing less high school and juco players and depending more on the portal to build the roster.

I don't know. We only have 11 scholarship senior & grad students on the roster, but there are 9 4th & 5th year juniors. A lot of those extra Covid years guys will probably graduate and move on and there is always attrition. With the portal and NIL I do not envy these coaches trying to manage their rosters. App is up to 20 commitments and there will be more. How many is anyone's guess, but as of now the class is almost 2-1 in favor of the defense.

App is now up to 21. Never seen this many by June.

Seeing is believing. DeAndre Brown is the greatest 5-star blue-chipper we've ever signed. That was Fedora's first class. I don't expect us to ever sign one like DB again, but how about a Jamie Collins?

Fedora followed Bower, and recruiting ticked up. On paper it looked remarkable, but attrition later killed some of those classes. It was better than Bower had been doing at the time, but the attrition hurt us eventually.

ELLLLLLLLLLLLis Johnson didn't have a QB, but still had no business going 0-12. The faceplant the program did is astonishing.

Monken pulled us out of a crater before he left unexpectedly for the NFL. He never had a full roster of 85 scholarship players, but he found a QB in Nick Mullins. Monken lamented our program's weaknesses ($) and left as soon as he could. C-USA's realignment didn't do him any favors. He used the transfer portal effectively in his final season.

Hopson was a safe replacement choice, but uninspiring, as was his performance. He recruited too many 'projects' and never developed them. Tulane had suddenly surpassed us, and humiliated us twice! So we hired away their OC. LOL.

Hall has to rebuild our image. I love his attitude. He's focusing in-state, which has been needed for a while. There has always been talent local, it just hasn't signed locally. This will be a pivotal year for Hall. 8-9 wins is expected. He needs performance from one of his signee QBs to get that.

Monken tripled his salary and went to work for an old friend in Tampa. It’s unfair to say he left as soon as he could. Hopson wasn’t a safe choice, he was a weak choice by a weak and ineffective AD.

first, Monk was from Chi-town ... you know the dichotomy of the psycho-burg due to that alone...

Monk had a crossroads moment ... do I stay and risk losing vs. paving muh way however I win...

fwiw, I lobbied for him and Carr to hold tight (but, I'm a gambler in those crossroad moments) ... he's a solid mothertrucker ... I'd hire his arse in a nano...

Hopson didn't have 50% of Monk's I.Q. ... no clue how ya hire Hop-a-long (well, yeah, we both do)

this year, Hall's got his nuts in a sling with this schedule ... we're getting ready to find out how he/staff can really corch/recruit and/or if he simply tosses FGII to the wolves...

it's tough being a G5 with diminishing brand whilst corching turnover becomes an issue....

southerrn miss is in a 'pressure cooker' ... that's what makes one spend $$$...

one can also use it to advantage ... #steppingStones

It all hinges on getting some decent QB play. You simply cannot win in today's game with the terrible QB play we have had the last 4 or so years.
