We have the smallest budget in FBS and we've won more P5 games than anyone in the conference which, I think, endears us to the rest of the conference. So no, we don't think of the sentiment as patronizing.

That's the part that gets overlooked. Until Southern Miss joined up ULM had more recent wins over SEC teams than anyone else in the SunBelt (USM's wins over the SEC have been rare the last 30 years). They are the last G5 team to beat Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Defeated a top ten Arkansas. Beat a Liberty squad who was a 33 1/2 point favorite. We've been a thorn in Troy's side forever. We had solid chances to beat Coastal last year and LSU the year before that.

If we could ever put it together for 9-12 games we'd have that respect but, hey, you know...hasn't happened. Our primary problem prior to 2022 was over 20+ years of administrations that didn't believe sports was that important and didn't believe name changes were a big deal. That stung a lot of the alumni and killed support that is only now beginning to show signs of life.

I consider ULM a conference rival (not a bitter rival like South) because we have been together for quite some time and in 15 meetings we are 8-7. UL and A-State are conference rivals in the same way with equally similar records. We are 9-7 vs UL and 7-8 vs ASU. This is why I love the Sun Belt West. I wish ULM had more winning seasons and I pull for you guys most of the time except if y'all winning is not good for us or is against us.
I don't consider any team in the conference a "hated rival". Yes, I do consider ULL and stAte as rivals but I don't hate either of them. There's really only 1 school we actually "hate" and that's latech. Of course, there's still ODU and JMU whom we've never played and Marshall that we've only played once and that was in 1987. I understand that all three of those guys can be massive pricks, so we'll see what happens there. LOL

I do not hate any schools. BUT I want lspoo, laneck, and toolame to lose every game. I want ULM and all others, NW, McNeese, Nichols, Grambling, etc to win all of their games except for one.

My 1st freshman year was spent at NWSt (make of that what you will) and I have a ton of family history in and around Natchitoches. My great uncle was the HC at Thibodaux HS for a while and then coached at Nicholls for several years. I tend to root for them most of the time. McNeese, SELA, Grambling, and Tulane it depends on who they are playing. latech....almost never. There may be a rare occasional time when them winning might benefit us so I reserve the right to begrudgingly hope for them to win in that case.

I grew up going to LSU football and basketball games as well as attended many basketball camps. I root for LSU behind ULM though and I do not provide any financial support to LSU.
