I hope they’re successful. Huge fan of expanding rail and metro services alike.

If you notice the Transportation Google Sheet that is a sticky on this message board you will notice I intentionally made Amtrak options the page before Airports.

Wife and I are taking the Crescent for our 30th Anniversary trip from Greensboro to NYC in a few weeks. The points from the Amtrak Credit card sign up bonus paid for this with a sleeper both ways. Not a bad deal. This is now a day trip mostly but still hopefully we can make use of the sleeper for reasons.

I've looked at Amtrak but it seems like a pain in the ass to try and plan a trip with it. I cant seem to find a good resource that shows where all my station connects to.

I've looked at it too for going from DFW to San Marcos. Problem is there's no safe/free parking in DFW. So it defeats the purpose financially if I have to uber to the station and back or pay for parking. Might as well just drive myself and spend that money on gas.

If I could save a few bucks and not have to deal with the headache that is I-35 for 8 hours a weekend going down there and back I'd definitely consider amtrack, but in the end the expenses would just add up to more than it does to just drive and set my own schedule.

If you are breaking even on cost but gaining time on the train to read a book or just look out the window and have an existential crisis that is a positive that a car is not giving you while you drive. And please don't discount the much better deal for the environment a train ride is over a car. That should tip it to the train.
