We will have our hands very full trying to beat UVA at their place.

Georgia Southern, App State, Marshall, Troy, Utah State, South Alabama are all 50/50 games

Coastal at their place is 60/40. ODU, Georgia State, UConn are 70/30

Bucknell is 99/1

Lose to UVa and all those odds change. It is a statement game and IMHO our most important
game of the year. For many reasons, recruiting being one the most important. Especially, if we bet the Hoos
and they beat the Gobblers.

Not sure I would place Georgia St with ODU, UConn, or even Coastal. Those are the 3 "easiest" fbs games on paper, though who knows. Supposedly UConn is on the upswing, and people keep talking about this McCall dude.

The Georgia St game was 42-40 last year at BFS. They were scoring on 2-3 minute drives. Playing away at Atlanta it's likely to be tougher.

Agree based on last year a ton of those games would be 50-50. However, I also believe we are going to see an even better JMU team emerge this year. We will have to perform better just to match last year's 8 wins. A lot of new talent added, the wild card is how long it takes the team to gel. I have faith our coaches will get us there quickly.

Agree.

Sophomore FBS season…can’t afford a slump. The schedule is going to be tough sledding past week one.

Not sure who they picked up in the portal, but app state lost a ton.

Thats a W

Utah state is not as good as they have been the past decade, that’s a W

RE: 2023 Expectations?
Could go a lot of different ways especially depending on qb play but my guesses on the season gun to my head are as follows:

Bucknell - W
@UVA - W
@Troy - L
@Utah State - W
South Alabama - W
Georgia Southern - W
@Marshall - W
ODU - W
@Georgia State - W
UConn - W
App State - W
@Coastal Carolina - L

10-2

A lot of these could go either way. Especially if qb play isn’t where we hope it will be. If we beat UVA I think Troy on the road next is almost a guaranteed loss. All in all I mainly hope we beat UVA, Marshall, and Georgia Southern

I agree, except I see us beating Troy. It's like Mickey Matthews said to a reporter just after the Natty in Chatty about why he was so confident going into the game.... "We just thought we were better than them."

As for Coastal, GMAFB! The score may be worse this season than last. I wonder what injury McCalll will fake this year to get out of facing our defense. He is going to spend more time on his back than a $5 hooker.

I truly believe that we are going to be a mighty and fearsome machine this season.

Go, Dukes! 04-cheers

RE: 2023 Expectations?
UVA through @Marshall is pretty damn tough. Georgia So. and Marshall seem to have our number, so until we flip the script I hesitate to expect wins. USA is a tough team, a much better than I think many might assume as they were close to a top 25 team by the end of the year last year. Never easy to fly out West and get a win. Troy is the class of the Sunbelt. So UVA might just be the easiest team (aside from Bucknell) until we get ODU at home.

I expect a drop off from App St. and Coastal. If we can start strong, we'll finish strong (pending injuries).

Yep, anything less than 11 wins and the pitchforks and torches come out.

IMO anything more than 6 wins is golden. Of course I’ll make my standard prediction of an undefeated season…but 6-7 Ws are more realistic.

I guess we can let him slide if we lose one game this year, but next year we're fully eligible and anything less than a national championship is unacceptable. This isn't Blacksburg!!!

^This is pretty much where I am.

I do not think folks on here are giving USA enough credit. I think they will come out of the West as the best team. They have 20 of 22 starters back from a year ago and added some good transfers.

UVA may be one of the three easiest games on our schedule.

RE: 2023 Expectations?
In twelve years as a HC Cignetti has never suffered a losing season. In his “down” years he’s posted a couple 6-5 results, but to date boasts an overall 108-34 record across all divisions. That breaks down to an average of 9-3 each year.

9-3 would be a good benchmark for 2023.

Agree, think a few people still believe too much in the P5. Unless UVA gets hyped up for this one or a massive turnaround from last year, I think we get that one by multiple scores.

Georgia St, Georgia Southern tend to be a little overlooked along with USA. Those games will be tough.

App St, I can't figure out how to read yet. They've been strong for a decade. Started last year with high scoring shootout against UNC, beat #6 Texas A&M, then seemed to slump second half of the season after we beat them. Losses to Texas St, Coastal, Marshall, Georgia Southern to finish. They feel like better than a 6-6 team, maybe SBC is just that tough. Every game we've ever played against them has been an epic battle.

RE: 2023 Expectations?
Yeah we're gonna stomp UVA. Definitely gonna be interesting to see how this year goes for some of our division mates. How will GS do with a new QB? Can App State get back to their norm? Can GSU bounce back from such a big letdown last year? What about Coastal post-Chadwell? Even we have a big question mark at QB, even if JMU fans know how much faith to have in Cig with QBs not everyone will see it that way. All we know for sure is ODU sucks 03-nutkick

I don't know who is over looking USA. Troy/USA/JMU were everyone's top 3 in some order last year. It's just not as worrisome as the Troy game because it's at home. Barring a major surprise we got a really tough draw with the cross division matchups this year. But hey this is the time for it, let's see how we stack up against their best since we aren't likely to be able to at the end of the year. If it does cause us to fall short of the East crown, this year is a good year for it.

Yeah not discounting USA they’re good. But my post was win loss and I think it’s more likely we win than we lose. Losing to them wouldn’t bea shock to me though

I don’t doubt USA is good, but any talk of them being beyond us or a likely loss….I’m not seeing it.

They had a favorable schedule last year. As favorable as ours. And they squeezed by in a lot of those games whereas we blew out virtually everyone we faced.

Call me skeptical….and We get them at home. I give us an 80% chance of winning that one.
