We had a lot of things not go our way, including the fumble calls, etc. Even the play announcers said one of those was obvious and indisputable.
Had we had more “luck” we could have won that game by 2 or 3 TDs I believe. They still gutted out a win in the end when it mattered most. Good experience for the team.
I agree. The back-to-back TDs (at the end of Q2 and first play of Q3) were bad, and then the missed turnovers made things feel much worse. Take away the 2 TDs that the missed fumble calls led to, and we're up 3 coming out of the rainstorm with the ball and 12 minutes to go. Drive the length of the field and score, and we've can even give up a score as long as we close it out with a few first downs afterwards. The entire tone of the game changes. (I was furious during the rain because it felt like the refs were determined to hand the game to UVA. It really felt like we were getting openly cheated.)
We ran well, we threw pretty well, and we defended well EXCEPT for a couple of catastrophic (and near-catastrophic) breakdowns in man-to-man pass coverage.
So, I'm not sure what'll happen this weekend. Troy has a beefy run game, and we'll probably have to play a lot of man defense to put LBs and safeties in the box. Look for a lot of play-action. Getting some DLs to beat their blocks and get QB pressure before guys get open will be a big factor.
I think our offense will do well. We did score 29 points on offense against a P5 defense, ran for 175 yards, and passed for 277.

I got a good chuckle out of this. The first (of many times) I was ready to go home last weekend was when the 3rd play of the game was a Timeout... I thought ohh man here we go we don't have our **** together

Why is Maryland with an empty stadium as a P5 on a Friday night on prime time? They’re 2-0…..

UVA up with a quick TD over UMd, making it look easy.

Told you so. Of course, there is a long way to go in this game, but with Colandrea under center, UVA is a good football team. Win or lose (I still say the Cavs win), this game should prove in the eyes of a lot of doubters how good JMU is.

I agree. I know it’s not what others want, but if we beat a team that goes 0-12 it means much less than a team that rolls through the season.

That Maryland kickoff return for a TD was by a small kid from a small school, a good athlete without a position recruited mainly by FCS programs and yet somehow found a way to get out on the field as a true freshman.

Love ya brother, but this didn't age well. The all world QB disintegrated, fell apart, imploded, and otherwise looked like a Peewee playing against an NFL team by the fourth quarter.

He also didn’t look great against Tennessee. To be fair, he didn’t look that great during a lot of our game. It was really just undisciplined play by our secondary at many times that made him look good. I’ll give credit, he can throw on the run but we made it real easy for him at times.
I think this result tells us what we already know. This JMU team might be head-to-head the 70th best football team in the country right now. That said, I believe Cignetti will get them performing at much higher levels as the year goes on. I don’t think we’re that good right now.

Yep, winning but not clicking consistently.
