Until other schools can understand the financial situation stAte labors under this will continue to be a problem. I feel many of the western conference schools who know the score get it.

Baseball gets improved and you gain softball. I came up with the idea, now y’all have to come up with the money. 05-mafia

Honestly, we have survived ULM, they are now updating their facilities, you guys will get back where you need to be. Just remember, you have a waterfall, who in the east has a waterfall???

We have discussed that plan a bunch at the administration level, but its pretty much DOA because none of our major donors have any interest in baseball or softball. There are a lot of small donors who would do it, but some of them want our baseball coach fired before they'll donate. But the school is hesitant to fire him because no one is exactly lining up to come in here and try to coach against teams with twice the budget and facilities daily.

You can't get the money until you get the coach, but you can't get the coach until you get the money?

You can't get **** until you get the Razorbacks out of your business. And with your handle you should understand that.

Off subject a bit, but why is the offices for the ASU system in LR??? Are they ASU people or are they UA people appointed by the state to run ASU???

Have you guys had any MLB players you could lean on to bring some attention to the program to your donors???

System President is hired by the ASU board of Trustees, who are appointed by the Governor. So yes, our System President is a pig alum and about 60 percent of our board is. We went through a stretch int he early 2010's where we had an alum as Governor so our board was entirely grads. That changed in the 2014 election, and its been that way since. Some of the decisions regarding moving offices were done in a time when we held the Governor's mansion, Now its under entirely Pig control.

Originally the system president was based out of Jonesboro and ran the Jonesboro campus, but they moved the offices to LR because the idea was that the President could use his role to lobby with legislators. We now have a separate Chancellor in charge of the Jonesboro Campus

As for MLB players, only two players in school history have ever cracked the pro's. Last one was when Tyler Zuber got called up by the Royals and pitched a bunch during the 2020 Covid season. He hurt his shoulder in 2021 and just now got back up to AAA with the DBacks. There's hope that we'll get another as Liam Hicks is rising fast within the Rangers system and is likely to end up in AAA this season.

I see our HOF'r didn't play baseball at stAte.

Kell was a student at ASU during the 1939-40 school year when he signed his first professional contract with the old Brooklyn Dodgers. He lettered as a member of the Indian tennis and softball teams (ASU did not have intercollegiate baseball at that time) and also was a member of the A-State basketball team. Most of his professional baseball career was spent with the Detroit Tigers. He also played with the Philadelphia Athletics, Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox and closed out his career in 1957 with the Baltimore Orioles.

Kell was an All-Star for 10 seasons. In 1949, he won the American League batting title hitting .343 with 59 RBI, denying Ted Williams his third Triple Crown. In 1950, he hit .340 with 101 RBI and led the AL in hits and doubles. In 1951, he hit .319 with 59 RBI and led the AL in hits, singles and doubles. He hit .300 or better for nine season and struck out only 287 times in 6,702 at-bats during his career. Following his retirement as a player, Kell worked as a play-by-play announcer for CBS (1958) and the Tigers (1959-1963, 1965-1996). Kell was inducted into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame in 1983.

Correct, a lot of the older players with ASU ties never played here. Daniel Wright made one or two big league appearances and never got close again. I honestly forgot about his time. Zuber was the first we had in some time to actually last on a big league roster for a season.

I counted Whiteside, but outside of sending some players our way that he coaches now, he's never been a major donor to the program. The original question involved if we had any MLBers who we could get to put the money behind it, we don't. Outside of a couple of cups of coffee, we've had no one crack the bigs since whiteside.
