RE: CAA Baseball Tourney
Season over pretty much the way it began with another 1 run loss. The third 2-1 loss to Charleston this year.

One run in eighteen innings. Pathetic.

RE: CAA Baseball Tourney
And it's over, Tribe loses 2-1. Hate being one of the teams that goes out 0-2 in a double elimination tournament.
Hated giving away an out in the ninth by sacrificing. McRae still playing in the 1950's. Also hated that our two best pitchers (Prarie and Lovasz) didn't even see the mound until the 7th inning of the second game.
Need to hit the recruiting trail for some starting pitchers.

Charleston eliminated Delaware this morning, 5-2.
Next up - elimination game between Charleston/Elon.
Late game between the current top 2 - NU and UNCW.

Elon eliminates Charleston.
Elon will face the loser of NU/UNCW in an elimination game tomorrow.

RE: CAA Baseball Tourney
As usual, Joey D and the folks in the CAA office seemingly come off looking like idiots.
Weather has been a factor in the CAAT so far. It suspended a game yesterday, which completed today, but there were no other games played today-- presumably also because of weather. So, according to a write-up by Northeastern, there will be an elimination game tomorrow between NE and Elon and then the winner will play a winner-take-all game against UNCW (note that this is NE saying that it will be winner-take-all). Here is the verbiage from the NE article: "The Huskies will face #2 Elon in the loser's bracket finals on Sunday, May 28th at 1 p.m. – the winner of that contest faces #1 UNCW for a winner-take-all championship game at 5 p.m. to decide the CAA Tournament champions."
So, not only is this grossly unfair to UNCW which is deprived of the advantage of being top dog in the winner's bracket -- by not getting a second chance if they lose (just like every other team did) but.....
(Putting on my Linda Bruno (Commish of A-10) hat here) It is also stupid by the CAA to not use every legitimate means to ensure that they get two teams in the NCAA tournament. NE is a lock even if they lose but the only way UNCW or Elon gets in is if they win out. UNCW would obviously have a far better chance if they still had one loss in hand before they would be eliminated. Therefore, to legitimately maximize the chance of two teams getting in, the CAA should play the first game at 10:30 or 11:00 AM tomorrow (instead of 1:00 PM) and thus, weather permitting, they could get 3 games in if necessary. Okay, ESPN/NCAA wants games done early so they can set up their brackets.....but tough s**t! Let them wait, and if it delays their selection show so be it. They can counter that by simply announcing that both NE AND UNCW get in......(assuming NE beats Elon).
I think the best thing for the CAA would be for Elon to beat NE in the early game and then it won't matter whether Elon wins or UNCW wins because the CAA would still get 2 teams in. (Although if it is Elon who wins then UNCW will still have gotten the shaft and are entitled to complain loudly!).

Well, other than Bernie McGlade being A-10 Commish, I agree with you that the CAA will, in general, not know how to get out of its own way.

Ah, yes, thanks for the correction....although we all know that McGlade -- and everyone else -- all learned such machinations at the feet of the master (Bruno).

Well, currently, D1 Baseball still has the CAA with two teams in the field, UNCW as the 3rd Seed in Winston Salem and Northeastern as the #3 in Boston. We can hope.

Given the rain we've had here today, playing any games in Charleston tomorrow (at any time of day) will be challenge.

If all the games get rained out, or even if it is just the championship game, then UNCW should be declared the CAA representative due to its status as top team in the winner’s bracket.

UNCW almost choked it away but prevailed 5-4. It was 5-1 going into the ninth and the game ended with the tying run on second.

RE: CAA Baseball Tourney
CAA gets two in the tourney.
UNCW is the 3 seed in Coastal Carolina bracket. They play #2 Duke.
Northeastern is the 3 seed in Wake Forest bracket, playing #2 Maryland.
Only 10 of 30 conferences put more than one team in the tourney, the CAA among the 10. The A10 along with most mid majors only placed their champion in the tourney, George Mason for the A10.
The SEC placed 10 in, the ACC 8.

RE: CAA Baseball Tourney
The Tribe went 6-8 against teams that made the NCAA tournament. Of course, 4 of those losses were in the last week with the sweep by UNCW and the loss to Northeastern in the CAAT. The Tribe went 5-2 against teams in the bracket that NE is in (1-0 Maryland, 2-0 George Mason, 2-2 Northeastern). The Tribe also went 1-0 against Campbell, 0-1 against UVa, 0-1 against ECU, 0-1 against Duke, and 0-3 against UNCW. Had a game cancelled against West Virginia.

That's actually the second round. Both CAA teams went 0-2 and are already bounced out of the tournament. Definitely not a good look!
