RE: Crime Rate
Like many, we are a tail of two cities. One made up of high generational poverty, low education attainment, low home ownership and high single parent/ low father involved households, low health and other insurance. Upper mobility is limited and hopeless index is high. Results: high crime, shorter life span, lower quality of health and life in general.
The other city is the opposite and what most of us live in.

Memphis was born a violent River town with high % of growth coming from share croppers, failed farmers and people with few other choices. It’s been racially and economically divided historically to date!

Tough to overcome but changes can occur. Might have to weather a few lawsuits an stretch the limits of accountability.

RE: Crime Rate
The Dirty Harry and Death Wish franchises were important cultural galvanizers in the ‘70s and ‘80s, because they illustrated how crime was enabled and institutionalized by our mid to late 20th century cities. Throw in Bernard Getz, and you had a public that was galvanized to take back its streets.

You must have the will, and you need leadership. And you have to be willing to accept that perpetrators of violence and chaos may still deserve rights, but not mercy.

Yes, by actually failing students who can't meet a reasonable minimum standard to graduate high school and punishing criminal behavior instead of cherry-picking police violence and make that THE story, THE narrative, etc.

This type of action cannot be lead by white people because - you know why. It will have to be led and enforced by the minorities themselves but their leadership since the 90's has been selfish and taught 'how be a victim to get what you want' instead of 'how to take advantage of the opportunities you have to get what you want'.

Do you consider Poplar Ave a bad area? Because that’s where most of the car burglaries, jackings and thefts are

The decades of woeful mcs education has fully caught up to us.

To relate this to our university, the last time I checked more than 1/3 of students needed remedial classes before they could be admitted to college level classes.

It’s definitely UM related but since some don’t want to acknowledge it it will soon be relegated to another board.

It’s not about acknowledgment. It’s about 05-deadhorse This can’t possibly be news to anyone, or can it?

Yet you are ok with the endless dead horse being beat about the administration of the UofM being responsible for us not being in a P5 football conference. I’ve heard everything from lack of OCS, RC Johnson, Fred Jones, John Calipari, Steve Earhart and Laird Veetch being the problem. Yet nobody wants to speak of the real truth. But hey you do you

What are your solutions to tackle the issue?

Poverty and racism are often cited as the causes of crime.

The Brookings Institute (not a conservative entity) lists three simple rules for poor teens to follow to join the middle class.

The rules follow:
1. Obtain at least a high school diploma.
2. Get a full-time job
3. Wait until age 21 to get married and have children.

https://www.brookings.edu/opinions/three...dle-class/

IMO, the fourth rule (not listed) is staying off drugs.

None of the rules have anything to do with race , but rather generally enacted by individual choice.

In general, therefore, all interested institutions should focus their resources on helping people help themselves.

My only point was that we all KNOW Memphis is a high crime area. If you want to expand on this, I’m all ears. I don’t know what other “real truth” you’re looking for me to acknowledge.

Show me one single post, at any time in my history w/ this board, where I’ve pointed a finger at anything/anyone you’ve mentioned. Where I’ve indicated that I’m “okay” or in unison with anyone else doing so. At most, you may find me agreeing that an OCS has never been a priority.

Show me just once where I’ve tied the lack of an OCS to P5 exclusion.

You’ve done this before, attempting to read things into what I post.

So “you do you” and show me.
