RE: #19 Maryland
NU picks up another win over a ranked opponent, beating #19 Maryland 9-2 in College Park.
1B Tyler McGregor hit 3 homers with 4 RBI. He put NU up 2-0 in the 1st inning after Mike Sirota led the game off with a single. Later in the 3rd inning, Sirota ripped a 2-run down the right field line to put NU up 4-0.
RHP Jake Gigliotti started the game and tossed 3 scoreless innings (1 H, 1 BB, 2 K). Michael Gemma got the win in relief (1.1 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 K).
After Gemma, Jordy Allard, Nick Davis, James Quinlivan and Patrick Harrington held the power hitting Terps to just 1 hit the rest of the game with 6 K’s.
The win gives NU a program record 37 wins, 4 of them against BC, Duke, UConn and Maryland.
NU heads to Virginia to play William and Mary for a key 3-game series.

I was thinking if we just win both remaining series (W&M and CofC) as well as the mid-week vs Lowell, we would get an at large regardless of how we make out in the conference. Does that jive with what you're thinking or do you think that logic is flawed?

Yes, I agree. Don’t know if that Lowell game gets played or not. They have a 181 RPI. Not great if we were to lose.
If NU finishes first in the regular season and don’t go two and out in the tournament, we’re a lock. You have to remember that both W&M and CofC have RPI’s under 100 and the league as a whole has the 7th RPI in D1. So that will help us if we slip up heading into the tournament.
The thing that’s driving us right now in the at-large conversation is our 7-0 record vs. they Top 50. That’s very solid. We’re 17-6 on the road. Again, very solid especially for a Northeast team. That’s why finishing 1st, or at the least 2nd so we get a bye with some tourney wins will solidify NU.
