Marc Daniels getting mixed answers about what time UCF-UH Sunday baseball game ends
Right now, Houston is leading UCF, 12-9, in the bottom of the 8th inning, and it's about 4:37 p.m. Marc said that, earlier, he was told the game HAD to end at 4:45 p.m. EST because the Houston baseball team had to leave at that time to catch a flight on time. UCF has runners at 1st and 3rd with one and the tying run at the plate. If the game ends without playing the 9th inning . . . I don't know, just sounds stupid to me. When the schedule was made, they should've accounted for this. It wouldn't be right to cut the game short this way no matter which team wins.

In this day and age this seems unacceptable

Off topic, curious what American baseball will look like minus Cincinnati, UCF and Houston

Rice has to get stronger again, and that didn’t happen this year.

In my opinion it's going to get stronger by adding UTSA, Charlotte, Rice, FAU. Particularly if Rice returns to historical form. But the AAC is losing 3 teams, none of which are ranked, and bringing in some high caliber teams, particularly with UTSA (provided they can keep their coach) and Charlotte. So my money is on the conference getting stronger in baseball.

Were there weather delays? Lots of times "Getaway Day" games start at 11 a.m., sometimes even earlier, to account for flights out and potential weather delays.

Let Houston borrow the 2017 national champions police cruiser to get home.

Nope, weather was not a factor at all. There were sunny skies in the Orlando area on Sunday. As best I can tell from what Marc Daniels said (Daniels is the voice of UCF for 740AM in Orlando), UH had a set time in mind that they wanted the game to end. At first, Daniels heard that UH didn't want a new inning to start after 4:45 p.m. Then later, Daniels was told the story changed to UH wanting a hard end to the game at 4:45 p.m. As it ended up, the 8th inning ended either right before or exactly at 4:45 p.m. (I don't remember the exact time); UH got three outs on UCF and the game ended. I don't know what you all think, but regardless of who won, this was a shi-tty way, in my opinion, to handle this. Both UCF and UH are playing for the highest seedings they can get in the conference tournament.

Does baseball matter so little to the American that they're going to let the teams decide that they want to end the game any time they want? Why not install a game clock in every American Athletic Conference baseball stadium, if that's going to be the case?

Just had to get this off my chest. The American is a solid conference with or without UCF, UH, and Cincinnati. I'm not even completely blaming this on UH because someone on our end apparently went along with this, too. I just hope the league does something to prevent teams from doing this sort of thing in the future. Just do a better job of setting up the schedule so you can play 9 innings (and extra innings, if needed) AND catch a flight or a bus or a cruise ship or whatever.

Absolutely! As long as they play a full game, I'm good with that. ;-)

You know, in all seriousness, it is entirely possible that the American gets stronger in baseball. I'm not sure what the baseball talent gap is, or if there even is one, between the three departing schools and the four new additions. I will say, though, that there is an argument for the American getting better with the changes. Rice, obviously, has won the College World Series before. I don't think any of the others have done that. I recall FAU getting to a Super Regional one season. I'm not sure historically what Houston and Cincinnati have accomplished in baseball. UCF has never gotten past a Regional, although we've been to a bunch of them and had to go on the road every single time. So, I definitely agree, the new baseball lineup in the American could be better than the previous one.

If the teams knew exit time was an issue---why didnt they just move up the Sunday start time? They had to know when the plane was scheduled to leave---and they certainly had to know Houston needed to leave by 4:45PM Sunday by the time the weekend series began. To be fair---this is not new. Ive seen this same thing be an issue in games that were played here. Never have understood why this happens unless the teams end up in extra innings.

I have not a clue why the start time wasn't moved up other than maybe they were concerned about getting lighter attendance due to churchgoers on Sundays or something. I'm all for people attending church, but there has to have been a better solution. Maybe a doubleheader on Saturday? Play the Sunday game on Thursday instead?

I would be happy to play a weekend series against Charlotte (it would be nonconference, of course) AND PLAY AT LEAST 9 INNINGS IN ALL THREE GAMES! Imagine that!
