Rice can afford whatever athletic budget it wants...the question is: Does Rice want to invest in athletics to the extent necessary to be competitive?
clt says not all endowment is liquid tho, bro
That may be true, but I'll be willing to wager the part that is is more than our respective school's put together by a large margin.

Yes and no. Given that even at half shares the AAC TV contract will increase the payout to the new teams by what, eight times or so? C-USA paid about 500k, full AAC shares are what, 8-9 million? We're also hoping that scheduling better teams will sell more tickets.
You guys get to split the exit fees on the three who left and to collect from us entering, and C-USA is keeping the basketball shares and our exit fees, but that's still a huge increase which will get bigger over time.
I would add that the AAC invited the top six athletic budgets in C-USA. I understand the difference in the numbers, obviously, just pointing out that these administrations are willing to pay more as the budget allows.

RE: Athletic Budgets Question
I don’t believe that Tulane number is accurate for out football budget. Our AD and coach have said we will be in the top 3-4 resource wise in the conference. It was part of Fritz staying was he wanted greater commitments to his coaching salary pool and facilities. He himself made $3+ last year after incentives
