I don't think many of us Memphis fans think he's worth the trouble now. A few were skeptical before. I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt, and not stereotype anyone, until they prove me wrong. I think Mikey just did.

and THIS is why I will continue to be no fun at parties, TripleA. Can't we ever get a break anymore? There's no way to reasonably replace these two players - sure someone will be wearing the uniform but you get my drift....

Really has nothing to do with having a lot of money. Guns are as easy to get for an 18 year old in most states as a chick fil a meal.

Nobody gave the kid anything. He has been earning millions on social media for several years. He was 18 when he purchased the house and cars with his own money. He will be 19 in June.

He has an estimated value of $3M a year on TikTok and Instagram, with millions of followers, developed by doing basketball trick shots since he was a young teenager.

At 18, your parents can't legally tell you what to do. A highly unusual situation.

Was more agreeing with the poster on the yard, a teen with that much money and no parental influence in the house is just asking for trouble.

LOL. Well, everybody chooses how to react. I'm not letting some 18-year-old rich internet sensation who does something monumentally stupid affect one minute of my life. My expected remaining life span is short enough, as it is.

Also, why are you assuming JJ is gone? Maybe. Maybe not. In fact, I'm not sure Mikey is gone yet. I would boot him, but I'm not deciding.

And why do you think there is no way to reasonably replace them? Players still have 4 more weeks just to ENTER the portal, and until school starts in the fall to enroll somewhere. We got Bates in August 2 years ago.

So far, about 1200-1300 are in, and less than 300 are committed, and many in the top 100 are still available.

Both are freshmen. How many freshmen have we had lately that made an impact their first year? Duren? Achiuwa? Both were top 10 guys. Mikey is #26 and sliding. JJ is in the 70s.

There are plenty of guards and wings still in the portal who are likely to help us, maybe as much as those two, who knows? Veteran CBB players tend to be more useful.

JJ wasn't even projected to start. We have several guys who can play the 3. Lenard likely. Ashton. Even Pierre.

You and I are just different cats. You are glass half empty, I'm glass half full. Both of us control our own emotions, not Mikey. You choose to be unhappy. I choose to look to see who's next.

It's not like Mikey was already here and a big part of the team going forward. Right now, he's just a freshman recruit who may decide to go elsewhere at the last minute, so to speak (although not of his own choosing). Okay, bye. Next.

He will be 19 on June 26. He purchased the home last summer. Of course he is asking for trouble, but it's his decision. 18-year-olds are legal these days for some things. Most just aren't self-made multi-millionaires with those type of resources.

Also, I'm not sure it was a teammate living with him. He had just spent the last 2 years in NC, and bought the house when he moved back to California. But whether it was or not, doesn't seem to matter to me.

Well, it's a good thing those poor student athletes that were getting free tuition, room and board, books and a stipend to boot are being exploited anymore.

From the perspective of a new observer, this seems to be that last thing Memphis basketball needed. Penny throwing his bottle was a bad look. But, Jamirah Shutes punching that girl in the handshake line was inexcusable and a poor reflection on Memphis. This looks even worse. At least he wasn't on campus yet.

The punch in the handshake line, I absolutely agree with. No excuses. And she won't be at Memphis any more, since she graduated, and the law will take care of her legal issue however it sees fit.

As for Mikey, this isn't Alabama/Brandon Miller bad, but it's in that neighborhood. Difference is, Miller was an integral part of the team in the middle of the season, and their admin did nothing.

Mikey is NOT a member of the team, and in no way represents Memphis until he enrolls and is part of the program.

What coach could predict something like this would happen with one of his recruits? Nobody. And most coaches would have taken this kid.

One other thing. The money Mikey has generated over the past few years comes from TikTok and Instagram. It has ZERO to do with NIL, and zero to do with Memphis. He has been doing trick shots on social media since he was at least 15, and is about to turn 19 now.

On3 Sports values his social media accounts at about $3.6M. Usually, they value your NIL worth as to your earnings potential, but in this case Mikey has actually earned millions already on his own.

Enough to purchase a $1.8M house near San Diego, plus an exotic car or two. And before you say he needs closer parental supervision, 18 is the legal age for a lot of things, including contracts.

Back to the alleged shooting. If Mikey did it, then he needs to be gone, and never be a part of the University of Memphis.
