NFL plans to Flex Select Games from Sunday to Thursday Nights
The Sun Belt may soon have competition for weeknight viewers as the NFL has a Flex plan for Streaming on Amazon under review and discussion. I saw a report on Fox11 News out of Green Bay tonight featuring Mark Murphy, Packers President.

Mark stated he is against the flexing idea being floated by the NFL but he understands it is very important as Streaming is the future. Business owners in Green Bay were interviewed and all were against flexing Packer games from Sunday to Thursday nights during weeks 14-17 (I believe).

Sounds like the NFL is going to push it through, if at all possible.

NFL has always played on Thursday Nights, they are just debating whether they want to have the ability to change which game is in that timeslot each week.

Overall its still on Amazon Prime, so at least we aren't competing with a major network.

Good for them because they always pick trash teams to play on Thursday.

That's why they want to flex. The idea is that if they stupidly select the Broncos against the Colts again thinking its going to be a great game, and both teams turn out to be awful, they could swap them back to Sunday and move a more important game into the Thursday slot with 2 weeks notice

The general push back on this is that its terrible for ticket holders.

Really sucks for fans traveling for games. Do I book my flight for Wednesday through Monday? Do I have to wait until a week or two to book? That'll be costly. Do I believe they care? Absolutely not.

Since it'll be on Amazon, I'm not concerned.

If it was on ESPN, CBS, ABC, or FOX... then I would be concerned.

Networks prefer that everyone stay at home and watch.

Indeed, it is. If I was still a washington ticket holder, I'd be pissed at the idea. In some metro areas its tough to travel on a weeknight for that. I always sold off the weeknight tickets when I had season tix.

Yeah I used to have season tickets and travel from Harrisonburg for every game. Having a Sunday game flexed to Thursday would absolutely suck. They're all about the TV/streaming money though, it is what it is. Not like we have a team worth caring about until maybe once they're sold anyway lol

You're right. They won't care. The stadium/parking lots will still be full whether it's by folks who bought tix months ahead or days/hours ahead. And most importantly the eyeballs will be watching the streams.

The Thursday night games are usually bad when teams have played on Sunday. The players are not able to recover fully and the product suffers. If they are going to flex games, they should look to flex for Monday nights as the cherry on top of the NFL weekend.

This would be cool. A bit like how fans look forward to finding out where College Gameday is going to end up on a weekly basis. Probably difficult logistically but would be an interesting approach!
