How should the University of South Carolina and the University of Southern California
Be abbreviated?

If we go by dates of founding, the University of South Carolina was founded first. If we go by the universities themselves, both called themselves "USC" except for a small recent time period when the University of South Carolina called themselves "U of SC" (2019-2022), but have since reverted to calling themselves "USC" again under pressure from alumni.

How would you resolve the debate??

RE: How should the University of South Carolina and the University of Southern California
My solution would be to do like how the Miami universities differentiate themselves: Miami (FL) and Miami (Oh).
We could do USC (SC) and USC (CA).

Edit: alternate solution: since the University of South Carolina was founded first, they could call themselves "The University of South Carolina," (TUSC) whereas the University of Southern California would continue to be known as (USC). I think that's fair also, IMO.

But I am willing to entertain other suggestions.

...howza bout

USCal and USCar... ...but even THAT is pretty similar...

...hopefully not 'jumping the thread ahead', but another interesting one will be the 'which UT is UT in the SEC?' ...that one is a bit easier, with UTx and UTn...

RE: How should the University of South Carolina and the University of Southern California
We could let the internet decide it.

Over there at the University of Southern California, they are http://www.usc.edu

Here at the University of South Carolina, we are sc.edu

IOW, being a state, we just get to use our state postal abbreviation for our University, and over in California, they are forced to add an extra "U".

Though, to be fair, while we are not the only University IN South Carolina, we are THE University OF South Carolina, so tUSC does have a little local charm relative to those other fellers who wear Orange, and sometimes a bit of Blue.

How about just the Cocks and Trojans? That separates them.
