MyBB Hodge Officially Hired as New UNT Coach
Six seasons as McCasland's Assistant Head Coach. Hodge had a major hand in building UNT into an NIT Championship program. Hopefully, his promotion to the head job will help keep the core of the team together and momentum going as we move to the AAC next season.

You never really know how anyone will do as HC, until they actually are the HC.

But still, this feels like the right move. Good luck, Mean Green

While I agree....

Officially, Hodge was the "Associate Head Coach" under McCasland. I have always said that they were 1 and 1a. I honestly believe that both have had equal contributions to UNT's success the last 6 years. Grant has been the coach on the floor and Hodge more of the X's and O's guy.

This is the best hire they could have made and the move has surprised nobody associated with the university. I am absolutely thrilled.

Memphis made an almost identical hire in Silverfield. He was the OL coach, the main assistant to Norvell who was there from the beginning, and the lead recruiter.

Most fans felt he gave us the best chance to retain players, who came out in full public support of him. But the results to date have been disappointing. Not quite bad enough to fire him after 2 seaons, but not good enough to be enthusiastic about the future.

I hope your guy works out well. This conference needs all the strength it can gather in both major sports.

Huge fan of the hire. Haven't met anyone with any negative to say about it. Hodge was the mastermind behind our defense, which became our calling card during this great run under McCasland.

Agree. But how instrumental was he in recruiting?

Seems like a great hire and one that can keep the momentum going that you guys have had for the last several years. Good luck Mean Green!

If he doesn't win the American, fire his ass. I'm done with marble mouth. He cost us a bid to the B12.

Never hire a coach who players like. Never.

This. Rob Ehsan went 17-16 with the same players Jared Haase took to 26-7. We're just now recovering from that hire. But Ehsan did keep any of those guys from transferring, and his top recruit punched him in the face, so there's that.

We've had Silverfield for three seasons unfortunately. This will be year 4 for him coming up.

Yeah, I do think it would be a harder transition in football. Just too many moving parts. What I feel good about is that Hodge has head coaching experience. Even though it was at the junior college level, he went 144-24. He's also been in coaching for 22 years. That gives me some confidence. But you never know, to your point.
