Women's tennis racking up awards
So far this season, Pukheava, Dukic and Li have been named Singles Player of the Week, and Fuller/Sedovich have won the Doubles Team of the week.

Every little bit helps. Success can be contagious.

I wonder if we could work out some other conference deals for individual sports like we did in tennis.

Well, mens soccer did. But that may be ending due to other losses that the MAC had in the sport. I believe Akron is taking soccer elsewhere and ending MAC soccer IIRC. Most conferences with women’s soccer are already full of members and not looking.

Volleyball would be extremely unlikely, basically impossible, as is basketball.

Golf could use a home.

Track and cross country don’t need a conference in order to qualify for nationals, so no real urgency there. A conference would just provide 2 meets and possible POW awards and All Conference awards.

We need another "all others" conference like we used to have - was it the Great West or something like that?

Yes. It was a very nice conference. With the exception of NJIT it was less spread out than the WAC. It never got an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament, but they did have an autobid to the CBI or CIT. That was Chicago States last postseason.

I think the women went post season in 2012 and the men in 2013. Around that time.

I was a huge fan of the Great West and it’s schools, and I still follow nearly all of the schools who were members. If they’d have stuck together, they were not far from getting an autobid. But everyone got pulled in several different directions.

IF Houston Baptist hadn’t added Football they can’t afford and aren’t good at just to get in the Southland, they could have paid for GW travel and at least had a budget to build decent sports-and still have RGV nearby as a rival. But with that the WAC wiped out on membership and adding anyone possible, that ended the Great West. What many may not know is that it started as a western football conference and went thru a couple different evolutions before becoming what it was known for closer to the end. Quite a few schools held membership over the years-many in single sports, but also full members. It was exciting!

I think in the coming days I may create a slightly off the topic of CSU thread about the Great West and some of its history. I don’t think anyone will mind lol.

That would be interesting. I would enjoy it.
