When was the last time in the 64 team era (or, ever) that two nationally ranked top 25 teams were pitted in a first round match?

It doesn’t make sense, it’s blatantly unfair, and it must stop!!!!

*(secretly I am so stoked about a true first round grudge match, but…) more than that I am peeeeesed offffff at the committee for throwing cold water on the possibility of two AAC 2.0 teams advancing past the first round.

What better way to protect the power conferences than pitting two of the strongest non-power conference schools against each other?

Obviously, the Selection Committee did not follow their own criteria, but no one knows the process since it is secret and the incurious media does not inquire.

I agree with the OP. And both were under-seeded, especially if the NET is the main factor.

clt says the CBi did seem to follow the NET rankings very bigly

They pitted two really good G5 teams against each other for a reason.

I think FAU and definitely Memphis could have beaten an overrated P5 squad.

Should have been a 4/5 not a 8/9

Memphis beat the #1 team in the country on Sunday on a neutral court, and lost to the top 1 seed Alabama by one score on the road, so I'd say they can beat anybody. Not that they will, but they are certainly capable.

Agree. I honestly think we should have been a 7 seed, missed it by one spot.

Both teams got screwed.

The injury bug has Houston handcuffed at the worst possible time… Not going to be easy with out Sasser in the lineup but coach Sampson will have the boys ready.

Yeah it doesn’t play into their narrative, so they find ways to eliminate them. So pit them together against each other and two schools become one.

Too bad we couldn’t have the champions of the two greatest basketball leagues in the world, who are merging next year to make the GREATEST basketball league in the world, meet in the FINAL FOUR instead of in the first round.

Otherwise it’s been a pretty good tourney so far.

For what it's worth, I think the seeding problem has actually gotten slightly better over the years. I went to undergrad at Bradley (MBA at Rice) ... my freshman year we finished the regular season #11 in the AP poll only to get a #9 seed (Hersey Hawkins' senior year). I think the development and availability of more advanced metrics have for the most part helped.
