RE: 2023 Transfer portal
Deadline was yesterday to enter the portal without a waiver. We dodged the bullet of having any defections. Not sure how many teams can say that but I am fairly certain it is a very small number since there were 1740 DI players who entered the portal.

That's great news. Now it will be interesting to see how Drexel compares to the rest of the conference. Drexel wasn't a bad team last year. Now how will this same team fare playing an extra year with each other. Will they be able to rise above the CAA? Will Drexel's talent be at a higher caliber in an already weak conference with more defections of talent than new talent brought in? Or will be just be same ol same ol for the Dragons, while the other teams replenish their rosters with stronger talent from the outside?

RE: 2023 Transfer portal
It does feel like a make or break season for Spiker with that being a decent part of it. He had some early issues taking over a bad program. Lots of injuries and defections. But its now going into a true 3rd year of his guys and his culture running his offense. Now we will see what we can or cant do or how limited we are. On paper we should compete, then again we should have been better last year too. If he can't be successful next year then I think it will be telling to where our ceiling truly is with Spiker.

RE: 2023 Transfer portal
he should be done if we're not at least playing in a conference semifinal. that's probably being generous compared to a lot of other places.

ultimately his fate will probably depend on donors and how much money we're bringing in. dan...you're a stat guy...so how many other division 1 schools didn't have basketball in at least the top 10 on their day of giving? that was telling to me about the level of enthusiasm...or lack there of...for the program.

problem i have with this team staying together is we still somehow have the center with the worst body language in the city despite embiid being around. amari williams needs to grow up. a player like him is a cancer and destroys an entire roster.

one of spiker's biggest weaknesses besides recruiting and actually playing his best players at the right times is not being able to manage personalities. the inmates run the asylum too often.

RE: 2023 Transfer portal
37 CAA players entered the portal
18 are still looking for a home
19 found a new home
5 moved up the ladder (6 if you count going from SBU to Charleston)

Thanks for the info. I wouldn't count SBU to CoC as a move up the ladder....though sadly the $$$$$ might suggest otherwise.

RE: 2023 Transfer portal
Conference wise its a wash for now, but CofC is definitely a move up program wise.

RE: 2023 Transfer portal
it looks like the women's program picked up brooke mullin as a transfer from villanova. nice pick up. she's a great defender and moves the ball well. her three point shot probably wasn't where she wanted it last year and she doesn't drive to the basket much. maybe at our level we'll see that part of her game develop.

RE: 2023 Transfer portal
Just updating the progression

37 entered the portal. 21 have found a home so far (16 are still in the portal homeless). 6 of those were a move up (including SBU to CofC)

37 players have transferred into the conference. (1 was an inter-conference transfer). 7 came from a higher level conference

I was late but a couple weeks ago Kam Woods committed to NC State. Thats a good jump up for him

Not CAA related (anymore) but Ithiel Horton, formely of Delaware, entered the portal going for his 4th team in his 6th season...

Was stated on the podcast but we are 1 of 5 schools who did not lose someone to the portal.

Also Marcus Watson has backed out of his commitment to Seton Hall after leaving A&T and is back into the portal

Do you think we will get anyone new before the start of the year?

With what scholarship? We are full unless someone else leaves (the window closed so they would have to sit out). We have the incoming freshman and Lucas Monroe. The rosters were posted awhile back, so it would be unusual to see movement now

We did have a tragic recent opening.

It was absolutely tragic, but it did not create an opening. He was not on the roster when it was released and his opening was why we had room for Monroe. Him not being on the roster was one of the first things noticed by many and then it made sense why we had an opening for Monroe.
