WNIT
ODU’s women’s team did not make the WNIT, so the season is over. Below is a link to the WNIT site. Was hoping the Monarch’s would get in, but they didn’t. Seems that the selection committee didn’t think too much of the Sunbelt, as only Texas State made the tournament. Curious that TSU lost in the semifinals by 30 points to JMU while ODU lost to JMU in the finals by only a couple of points. Go figure. Hope for a good recruiting season and better luck next year.

RE: WNIT
I was surprised the Sun belt only got 1 team in as well. All the love went to CUSA and the A-10:
CUSA
WKU (19-13)
LA TECH (19-12)
RICE (22-8)
UTEP (20-11)
A-10
UMASS (26-6)
FORDHAM (18-12)
URI (24-6)
RICHMOND (20-10)
SJU (20-10)
Sun belt hopefuls that were left out:
ODU (22-12)
USM (21-10)
GS (20-8)

RE: WNIT
As bad as the men's program has fallen, its especially shocking how far the women's has fallen. It was basically a "lock" that they'd be in the NCAA every year for decades. Now we can't even get a WNIT bid with 22 wins. Its a different world, and its taking a lot of getting used to, for these lower expectations. Some of my favorite basketball memories are the ladies hosting/playing NCAA games at home.

Sun Belt is a step down from CUSA.

ODU's schedules, wins, and success for the women pales in comparison to what it used to be. Teams like Maryland, Tennessee, UNC, UVA, and VA Tech used to routinely be on the schedule, and they used to be a mainstay in the Top 25. I remember once when they had significant player losses due to graduation, they came out with a T-Shirt that said something like - ODU doesn't rebuild, we reload.
Of course, the men's team has also had a decade of mostly choppy waters as well.

RE: WNIT
There is no reason we can't be the 2nd best program in the state (can't compete against UVA money right now). We have 3 national championship trophies in the lobby of the Ted and can't take advantage of that? Losing 3 times to JMU in a season is inexcusable. Currently what DMJ has coming in this next season is not going to cut it. In my opinion. she's been too much about self-promotion and not enough about what she was brought in to do (bring in quality recruits and win meaningful games).

VT is a one seed this year. I remember when we were as well. That was quite a year. We are 5th in the state behind VT, UVA, LU and JMU. It hard to believe. And its even worse for the men.

Who is being brought in. I have heard nothing about recruits or transfers — in or out.

From Seward County CC (KS):
https://sewardsaints.com/sports/wbkb/202...alima_u10u
https://sewardsaints.com/sports/wbkb/202...awnti_mbxy
https://sewardsaints.com/sports/wbkb/202...eanna_ho39
From Shelton State CC (AL):
https://athletics.sheltonstate.edu/sport..._maya_xntu
From Manor HS, Portsmouth, VA:
Anjanae Richardson, 5-8 PG, Portsmouth, VA
As of today, I have no other information on other recruits. 4 JUCOS (3 of which are from the same mediocre CC), who in my opinion are average or below at best, and a freshman PG (Richardson) who shows potential. DMJ needs to get busy and bring in some impact transfers otherwise next season won't be as "good" as this season.
Don’t think you can bring in mediocre (or less) Juco players and expect the program to grow and move forward. I guess it’s easier to go the junior college route than compete on the recruiting trail for the best high school players around. But, geez, a well decorated as our coach is, you’d think young post players would *want* to play for her. Plus her husband/assistant coach played in the Lakers professional program. And there’s a lot to like about ODU and Hampton Roads.

Thank you for the information and this thread. Are we actively recruiting high school players? This area is a resource for high school male players (not that the men’s team is exploiting it) and I wonder if we have many quality women HS players in the area. I’ve not focused on recruiting, but am not at all impressed with our coach. I really miss Nikki McCray. I gues we get the coaches we can afford.
